Mortars
Do you use mortars in airsoft events? A friend of mine in the US uses pop bottle mortars. He asked me if I could make fin assemblies for their pop bottole mortar rounds. Here are a few pics of the fin assemblies I made for him. If anyone is interested in discussing pop bottle mortars I'd gladly discuss it.

I'm interested in the pop bottle mortars. What are they? 1L, 2L?

I wouldn't mind being shot at by one depending on the weight of the round and composition. I'll be watching this thread, sounds interesting!

I was refering more to the sabot and payload of the round, my only concern would be with neck injuries from a round to the head at close range. But looking at the pics, the fin assembly must weight 100 grams tops.

Looks like it's surrounding a film canister?

Make sure you wear a tactical helmet (or any protective headgear) when you get hit by it... at close range, water rocket can be deadly...

that is a film cansiter....when you say pop bottle are you refering to the flying film canister (vineger, plus Baking soda wrapped in a paper towel, drop the Baking soda into the vinegar in the film canister, close it quickly and set it upright and watch it shoot upwards)? Or is it just on there for show?
If you want a pop bottle rocket, try mentos and diet coke.

mortar
I'll explain these mortars. They consist of a a film canister/fin assembly secured to the cap of a pop bottle(not 1 or 2L). The pop bottle is filled with kitty liter or other light material like ground up corncob. The bottles are scored so they will burst apart on impact. A charge of black powder(approx. 1/4 tsp) is placed in some saran wrap with a piece of cannon fuse then tied in a small ball with the fuse sticking out. This charge is placed in the film canister with the end of the fuses pokeing out of a hole in the canister lid. You light the fuse then drop down the mortar tube. The blackpowder explodes blowing the cap of the film canister shooting the mortar round out of the mortar tube.

So you say not 1l or 2l, safe to assume your planning on using a 600ml bottle then?
Don't know if I'd want to be hit by one of those flying through the air filled with water, let alone kitty litter........ Nerf rockets are cool and I've seen them in use, but atleast they are foam. |
