Whee! New MadMax ROFinator!

I finally sat down and wired up my CA M249 Para. I was waiting on a LiPo cell balencer to charge a new megabatt I call the mini weld pack.

Crazy thing is 14.8V 4200mAh, capable of 60A continuous current and 100A burst for 10s.

This AEG features MOSFET switching rated for 106A, Guarder SP130 spring and not much else. The FETs are heatsunk to the heavy aluminum top cover. An early trial unsurprisingly cooked the stock trigger switch so I put in the FETs and changed the microswitch.

I whizzed off at some cardboard hoping to cut up a happy face and ended up stripping the piston in not very long. I've just installed a new one and will try the same once my apartment neighbors wake up and go to work.

Dammit, I can't get the sound to sync. The poppy racket which precedes the shooting bbbbrrraaappp is the auto winding mechanism cranking away. Then the power tool noise starts up.

LOL......if I ever make it to TO for a game, I'm on your team.

Bloody nice, I hope you can keep it from stripping pistons.

Impressive. I've always wondered how Lipo would perform with the proper circuitry in place. I've always been leary of using Lipo because of the fire hazard, but if anyone was going to engineer a safe way to do it, it would be you...

...er, is that apartment of yours a rental? LOL...

The MOSFET switching doesn't protect the battery. What I need to do is install under voltage protection to cut off the battery when it's depleted. For these early tests I'm not too worried, but for game play, I still have to work out an under voltage cutoff cct. As to short out protection, I think I'm not too worried about that. The battery is rated for higher current than motor windings. I think if I get a mechbox stall, the motor brushes will flash off into carbon dioxide and the spinning coils will vaporize into a ball of copper plasma and copper plate the inside of my gun if the current starts to approach the 100A burst limit of the battery. In a sense I'm using the copper motor windings as overcurrent protection.

To mitigate some of the hazards of the battery going critical during charging, I charge inside a fireproof bag:

with a rate of fire that high, i wouldnt want to be on your team, im more likely to be killed by the thousands of rounds that will richochet back at you, would rather be behind you than in front mind you

LOL I'm surprised the piston lasted as long as it did.

that still poses an unacceptable risk

I recommend charging the battery in someone else's house to fully mitigate the hazards

Or, you know, stick the cell balancer on it so the chance of the battery exploding is only slightly higher than a NiMh battery exploding.
