Upgrades for a Sl9SD
Hey guys, in the near future, hopefully, I will be getting the SL9SD. I plan to start upgrading it soon after I buy it, and I want your opinions on the parts I plan to get since I have no real experience with upgrading guns. I basically plan to upgrade everything over a long period of time. Please don’t flame me about researching because I have, and I also have a secondary weapon.
Well I plan on getting (not listed in the order of importance): Systema Cylinder Head for Gearbox Ver.3 Systema Silicon Piston Head with bearing Guarder Air Seal Nozzle for G3 Series Systema N-B Cylinder Type 0 Prometheus 6.03EG Barrel (509mm) Systema Area 1000 Poly Carbonate Piston or Systema Poly Carbonate (half gear, old style) Systema Torque Up Flat Gear Set PDI 170% spring which would make it ~400fps Systema Metal Bushings (not sure if this is the best choice) Guarder Spring Guide Ver.3 The only things I am not really sure about are the piston and the bushings. For the piston, I don’t really understand what the half gear does compared to the full gear, although I have read a few posts about it, and I don't know which would go best with the parts I plan to get. I am also not sure about the bushings, I don’t think the bushings I have picked are the best choice. So if anyone has any helpful opinions or advice that would be great. Thanks

Since it is SD version. 509mm inner barrel is short. PSG1 inner barrel and bore up kit to match.

the systema bushings are cool. make sure you get a piston that matches the gears.
http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...b4a96081634182 that style with the sector gear that's pointy all around uses a half tooth piston. but it is helical and the piston is included so sweet deals. http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...b4a96081634182 this style that has a regular sector gear is used with a regular style piston. http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...b4a96081634182 this style is the same as the last one, only helical. this means that the gears mesh normally with the motor and piston but on an angle with each other. theyre sweet ![]()

PDI 170% and bushings would be ~400fps...
PDI 150% + the upgrades you listed will most likely bring you to 400fps. I had to downgrade my spring after installing similar parts that you had listed. |

Bore up kits don't do much unless you're running an M130+ spring (ie: 425 fps+). That's too hot for most gaming venues and/or club rules, so if you plan on actually gaming with it, best to check with your local club or field vis a vis velocity limits.

Systema metal bushings are fine. Be aware that some bushings will have problems fitting some mechboxes. I had a lot of trouble fitting Systema Bearings into a few CA reinforced mechboxes. Also, Guarder spring guides will not fit in Systema Progear mechboxes.
In order to minimize these problems, try and stick to parts that are all from one manufacturer (ie all Guarder, or all Systema). Both companies make full tune up kits (FTK's) that have every single upgrade part needed to replace the whole inside of your mechbox. Most retailers can get you the Guarder FTK's, try MadMax on these boards to get Guarder FTK's. As an aside, I use Guarder parts in 90% of my guns.

Ok, thanks for the information, I'll try to make them all from one company.
Do you have any suggestions on the type of bushings that would fit a Ver. 3 mechbox nicely.

As long as it's a stock mechbox (not aftermarket) it'll use 6mm bushings. If you're going for more than 350 FPS, avoid any bearing bushings and go with solid metal ones. Guarder, Systema, King Arms, Prometheous....all good brands IMHO.

Today I was talking to one of my friends about the the upgrades I was planning to do and they said that a 6.03EG inner barrel could jam pretty easily, and that systema springs are better than PDI springs and that they last longer too. Is this stuff true?

I use Airoft Elite (AE) .20's & .25's in my gun and it doesnt have any problems. (Lets just hope my bag of bb's doesnt pour out on me again. ) Also, I use a PDI 150% spring (bout 390fps), Systema Spring Guide, Shims & Silent Piston Head, Guarder Bushings, Guarder Hopup Rubber, Type-0 Cylinder, CA Reinforced Gears, EG700 w/ 9.6v 2000mah NiCd battery. (I also get a good 4000rds out of a single charge.) :duke: Systema springs are VERY stiff & hard on your mechbox for the first couple thousand rounds through it. The PDI springs are softer, but still produce the exact same amount of power as the Systema's, But with just less the stress on your internals. |

So which spring would you prefer to use, Systema or PDI?

I prefer PDI over Systema purely for ease of install, but PDI springs are notorious for being mispackaged (or, for shooting WAY harder than they are rated as). There are other springs out there that are also very good (Guarder, Promethous).
