There was a big discussion about the cake being a lie or real, yes the cake was real, but it was never ment for you. GLaDOS was trying to kill you in the end remember? "You will be baked, and there will be cake." cake was never for you man, thus, a lie. Throughout the discussion somehow they came to the conclusion that the cake was for GLaDOS.
