Cutting a spring

I think you could just add the washer and bearings to the spring guide to stop the cut end on the spring from gripping into the spring guide causing spring torque.

Most springs will a bit. Modify ones don't.

thanks alot, Yeah i have already decided to just buy a new spring, at this point I'm just curious as to how easy it is to cut a sring, and if its actually effecive, or if it will just tear up your gun...

on a spring, the ends are double or single coiled (end is flat sits flush against inside of piston and any washer on spring guide), but when you snip it the end is going to be on a angle and not sit flat and the end is going to want to dig in when the spring is going to be compressed and torque will occur in the spring especially if it snags due to being cut. The twisting will cause the spring to prematurely snap over time.

But having the 2 washers and the bearing will allow the spring to rotare eliminating the spring torque:


I've seen the washers and bearing on the inside of the piston and on spring guide. Mind you I only use one set, I think 2 sets on either side is over kill.

and would it be possible to reshape the end of the spring, back into something usable?

EDIT: regarding your edit M,
I am running a fully stock JG G36c, I am planning on taking it apart soon for the basics, Metal bushing, de-lube .ect
I don't own a chrono, but when using the poor-mans choro on redwolf it breaks both sides easily and almost penatrates the bottom...

It is really tough, but I have not patience or skill for that. I did it a few times with tiny springs using two pliers and time but the AEG spring is super strong. I had to use really big wire cutters (that cut fence) just to to cut it. Then hit it with the grinder to remove the sharp cut end.

The springs are squirted out very hot and then cooled in their coiled shape already from what I saw on tv.

Redwolf poor man's chrony isn't that accurate.
Sounds somewhere in the range of 340-370.

thanks so much for your input guys, on the topic of choro's I heard that there was a much more accurate "home method" using 2 mic to capture the of the BB going though 2 pieces of paper, about 10 feet apart. The only link i could find for this was dead tho...

anyone have info/a link about this??

just what i was looking for
and as a new airsoft player, 120 seems like a lot to spend on something like that, I just bought mt first gun, and i think the 120 would be better of put towards mags/upgrades :P

This is true. However it's good for people like me who only have a few airsofters in town and we all use it, and I also upgrade/build/fix guns.

The Modify 90 spring (with bearing spring guide) puts out between 320-330fps in the few guns I've installed it in. The Modify 100 (with bearing spring guide)puts out around 370fps in guns I've installed it in. All depends on what environment you want to use the gun in I guess, indoors or outdoors. Nothing wrong at all with using a 330fps gun outdoors loaded with 0.28g BBs, it actually works VERY well, even out to 150ft (my MP5A for example).

HA I just realized you live in elora. I am going to Belwood lake next week for pike.

I agree spending $120+ for a chrono is money well spent on something else if you are just going to use it a few times ( thats worth a decent rod $80, some fishing line, and power worms). Another option is to go to a game and get it chronograph ed there. Or may be pay a buddy with a chrono $10 to use his at his house for a few minutes.
