I'm new to this but from the readings I've come across, is the Systema one of the best boxes around?

Yes. And they're coming out with a new mechbox design that makes the current version 2 mechboxes look like dinosaurs.

d-boys
Take The-Saints suggestions, get a solid metal gun and drop in a systema complete mechbox+ motor.
My suggestions (roughly estimates): 1. D-boy M4 $230 2. Systema Mechbox 120 with motor $300 3. prometheus barrel 6.03 $50 4 Prometheus complete hop-up system $35 Less than $600 gun can be a rocked solid gun for life. |

I hate my Dboys metal body. We had to dremel the ever living crap out of the mag well to make anything fit. Theres fitment issues with the Mechbox and hopup as well. As soon as I get a chance its being replaced with a KA.

Hey I just got age verified and am looking for an AEG i was originally considering the CA M15A4 but have heard the internals are clone and reliability is not the best.
How about the CA M15A4 (full metal) is that rifle any good (internals)? How does it compare to the other metal bodies? |

I have the M15A4 rifle... I put 20 000 rounds through it stock before opening up the mechbox. Other than minuscule wear on the edge of the tappet plate where it contacts with the sector grear, there wasn't the slightest sign of wear on any of my internals. I would say that passes pretty much any reliability test.
And the parts that people say tend to be problematic - piston, spring guide, nozzle, and hopup rubber are all extremely cheap and easy to come by. And BTW, ALL AEG internals are close of TM.

Haynes gearbox, Some base gun for internals and receiver, probably a G&P. Then whatever else I wanted like a tightbore and something. Hardest part is finding a Haynes gearbox.
ICS I like, even though some people say it is "It Can't Shoot". TM with a Hurricane body or any decent metal body is also very good. TM stock except with M120 should last you a while so long you don't touch the shims. It is cheaper to have a base gun than building completely from scratch if you want a decent looking and sturdy gun. How much energy you expect this thing to do? 1.75 Joules? I wouldn't put an M120 into a stock TM.

How well would a CA M15A4 handle a M120 if everything else is stock?

As long as you have a sutible battery to power the spring then you should be fine. That is not to say that it may not increase wear on the internals with tougher spring. If you have the mechbox open to put a new spring in, you might as well put in a bearing spring guide as well.
Extreme minimum recommended to run an m120 in my opinion. Metal bushings Bearing spring guide.

Sweet... and the CA M15A4 has metal bushings anyways.

It'd probably be a good idea to throw one of those Sorbothane cylinder head cushions in there for good measures. The main problem with running a M120 in a version 2 is that version 2 aren't as structurally robust as say, version 3. This results in a higher chance of premature mechbox cracking around the front with non-reinforced mechboxes and higher springs. Having a Sorbothane cushion should dramatically reduce the shock transfered into the front of the mechbox by the piston hitting the cylinder header, if the data on them are to be believed.

Seems to me like the CA M15A4 is one of the best armalite series in the price range from my research. I believe it has a reinforced gearbox so it should be less prone to cracking from a tighter spring.
I found a website comparing the CA vs TM M4 series it is a good summary http://www.airsoftgi.com/careview/index.htm How does the CA stack up against the ICS M4? |
