How durable is the Tanaka Kar98k?
I posted this in the WWII forum, but i was also wondering people's opinion who own this gun who do not play WWII re-enactment. Thus, i also posted it here.

I'd buy a bunch of extra parts while they're still available. Better safe than sorry.

If you're looking to skirmish get the spring version of the Dboys Kar98 the shells are cheap and it's a nice piece.
Gas shells will always be subject to issues. Also most Tanaka Works internals are made from pot-metal. And to add on, there are no 'spare parts' available for Tanaka guns anyhow. RA-TECH has some parts but chances are if anything breaks in the Tanaka you'll be screwed unless you pay a gunsmith over in HK ie. DaytonaGun to literally make a new set of steel internals. For all that trouble it's just not worth it. |

The Tanaka one isn't the shell version, that's the Marushin.
Tanaka one is basically their M24 in a different stock. |

correct to everything you said above. all spare or upgradeable internal parts are out of stock. and with tanaka being out of business, no chance of getting replacement parts. im really worried about this and it scares me to actually consider selling off my dream gun.

If you really love your gun, contact Justin (DaytonaGun)
You can send him the internal parts you think will wear down the fastest and have him make you some aluminum or steel bits. Worst thing you want to do is sell your prized gun than kick yourself for doing so. Quote:

Justin at Daytonagun is great he custom milled a replacement trigger and spring set for my Smokeys M82, he is also doing a bunch of shells for the same rifle. FYI his fees are not cheap! but well worth it if you have a collectors piece.
