New to airsoft in Toronto/GTA?

Are you:
- new to airsoft?
- able to get to central Toronto (Bloor/Landsdowne)?
- want every question you ever had about airsoft answered?
- want the opportunity to see a wide range of kit, equipment, gear, guns?
- want to get into a game and see what it's all about but are a little gun-shy that you're not ready?

Then take a look at this Event, Sun Morning March 28th.

This is a structured event, but will be newcomer friendly. As long as you're over 18yrs old, have an AEG/BBs, boots and goggles...you've got the equipment. If you can read, understand and agree to the rules and the expectations...then you're good to go.

There will be lots of seasoned players on hand and most are open and willing to answer a variety of questions.

If you have any questions about game play, gear, kit, whatever...feel free to post them here in this thread or in the game thread if you're signing up.

Should you really make them bring an AEG or a gun?

What if there are players who don't want to delve in with cheap ass gear and actually buy something "proper". I foresee people who want to attend but don't have gear might go to CT and waste their money.

Maybe you should have rentals available or other people with more than 1 gun can arrange rentals to participants without guns.

EDIT: BDU's goggles and proper footwear probably aren't that far of a stretch and I'm sure most people have these, if not just pick up a set of $30 used OD BDU's and a $25 JT PB mask. Everyone has boots (I even have boots for hiking/yardwork) so that probably isn't negotiable.

Good points...noted...and I will adjust the game thread accordingly.

The link is to a game/event...so not really a "Intro to Airsoft 101" thing. I've arranged that before and made loaners/rentals for guns and gear available. Brian M's had several of these...where having much of anything of your own isn't mandatory.

But there is a bar to hold people to. They must be able to read, they must have the self initiative to get to the door and step through. Getting to the door has requirements (age, some stuff, nothing earth shattering).

If someone goes and wastes their money at CT...I don't really care. If they want better than that...they'll figure out what's better and get that.

Once there, they'll have potential information resources on tap that would eclipse trolling the vast ASC with regards to ease and accessibility.

I want to get guys off of just surfing the site and out to good games.


I used to keep several rifles on hand for loaners (didn't even charge for them)...but don't have them any more.

I'll edit the game thread to note posting up for rentals...and clear guns.

Taking another look through the thread another criticism that I have is the radio. This may be implicit but you should probably state that all players without radios should be/will be paired up with someone who does have one so they know what's going on and aren't running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

I like your no clearsoft policy as well. Hell even a crappy paintjob with drips everywhere and uneven spraying is better than "active camo" and it's like $4.00 for a can of paint. There's even this import paint from Australia that's like $3.50 a can (less if you buy bulk packs) so there really isn't any reason to not have a gun painted if it was originally "active camo". It's like the cost of a days worth of bus fare so no excuse at all even if you're a poor university student (just don't go to the pub or brown bag for a day or something).

EDIT: Yes I also agree with you on the minimum expectations. If you don't have boots, this is Canada GET SOME (even in Vancouver the use is for hiking, and elsewhere, winter boots for better traction). BDU's are cheap and useful as crappy painting clothes, grease clothes for working on a car, dirty yardwork, and if things don't work out you can use it for those things. With paintball goggles, they're like $25 at CT for an entry level JT mask so there isn't any excuse there either.

Tys, this is actually great and if the day works out well maybe the general outline could be passed over to the west to run similar event days as well although it does sound like some of the newbie days where it's 1/2 day newbie stuff and the second half of the day dedicated to games till sundown.

Tys, I was actually commenting that there isn't a reason that participants shouldn't have that gear. Lets say NewbiePlayer1 doesn't have any gear at all and wants to go. A gun might be a bit far of a stretch so rentals either secured privately or through the admins would be a good idea but for other gear such as boots, well no reason why any player doesn't own boots with good tread and ankle support same with BDU's a player who is semi serious about wanting to join in can pick them up for $30 for a full set (jacket + pants) at a surplus store as with eye protection no reason why NewbiePlayer1 shouldn't have any either, they're cheap and readily available at Canadian Tire for an entry level paintball masks. If NewbiePlayer1 after that day doesn't think airsoft is for them at least they didn't buy a gun, they have some BDU's now and those can be used as rag clothes and as for boots well, we're Canadians, no reason why you don't use your boots at least once a year or more. As for eye protection, well no real use outside airsoft or paintball but if NewbiePlayer1 gets invited paintballing for a stag or corporate retreat then at least they can use their own eye protection and don't have to use the crappy rentals. Like I said there should be a minimum requirement but a gun probably shouldn't be one of them. I like how you've revised it.

As for the radio thing, I didn't know how big of a field it was and if yelling or an airhorn is good enough then all the power to you.

I can't budge an inch on goggles/eye protection...they're for safety.

Radios...m'eh, never fail, most times some guys haven them and some don't...and the ones that do don't have working batteries for more than 30min. It just helps to coordinate things from one end of the field to the other (I have enough radios to outfit game staff) and I just yell anyways.

Boots, clothes, painting guns....nah, I've got two kids of my own, don't want to borrow any for the day. If the person can't read that in advance and sort themselves out at least that much...then I don't want them this time. They're welcome to get sorted out and try again next time.

I'll help pretty much anyone as much as I can...and I'll arm twist others into helping as well...but the guy looking for help has to get to the front door and step through.
