I do believe you would need a long type... however, trust me from personal experience, just go for a prebuilt gearbox, it is so much cheaper. I have spent about $4-500 building one from scratch; it's fun, but expensive.

As for the gearbox, I'd say Systema; they're pretty much the best in the business.
