I've had several. Just a couple of notes.
MOD/Clubfoot stock
1. You can only put 2/3A sized (i.e. "minis") or smaller cells into it. You can easily build a 9.6v "mini", with 4 on each side. No issues with fully closing your stock.
2. The last one I made was with 1500mah cells that I took from 2 x 6-cell RC car packs (they were on sale).
3. It's a pain in the ass to change batteries, so I wouldn't count on doing it in the field (i.e. worse than a frantic M4 or G36c type change out in the middle of a skirmish after lunch), but doable if you have the time. I have 2 clubfoots, and If I'm using one and it dies, I'm just going to swap on the whole other stock.
+1 on the CRANE style stock, it'll hold large (i.e. sub-C cell and smaller) batteries.
- with 7 cells, it's not bad closing your stock all the way
- with 8 cells (i.e. 2 in the "pipe"), it's a pain in the a** and I almost never seem to get it right and typically leave it fully extended or just one position in.
- the last battery I made for a CRANE stock was made from a disassembled 9.6v large battery (sale again). They were a pretty tight fit (CA CRANE stock) but they worked.
- if you get a kit, get it with the stock pipe. Some pipes have cut outs and channels for wiring, which make closing your stock less painful.
