Well, to start I'm left handed with a rifle, and funny enough rifles only; pistols/smg's/shotguns I can fire just fine right handed, however my accuracy is gone to hell unless I shoot left ((specially with scopes)). I previously had a Maruzen APSIISV which was well upgraded and was a rock solid gun, the only problem, was when prone I'd end up having to move around too much to reload making my ghillie useless or I'd end up punching myself in the face cycling the bolt.
Chanced upon a broken M24 that needed a new barrel, someone had tried to modify the barrel on the gun to be left handed by hand and decimated the barrel entirely. So, with a lack of replacement barrels available for the CAM24, I opted for a different path. I decided to build an APS barrel on the M24 stock, so yes its true that realism is lost somewhat here, but function was key in this project.
So when all the parts for the receiver arrived I started test placing everything. Some mods to the stock had to be made and I had to dremel out areas in the stock to allow the larger receiver to fit, as well as drill a new bolt hole for the front screw. However everything else lined up perfectly, no modification was needed at all for the mag-well ((accept for a small notch to be cut so that the screw holding the hop-up unit in place could fit, very easy)).
Finally the barrel came, now I was after a fluted barrel from the start, only they became impossible to find, so I nabbed one of the last OR barrels available on WGC before even they were all gone. Now, I had the APSIISV flash-hider left from my old sniper rifle kicking around, and it came in handy as I ordered a 550mm 6.02 inner barrel for the rifle, and the flash-hider was the perfect fit.
The last thing left to do is find a scope rail to fit the receiver which should not be difficult at all and then track down a scope for it. A little paint to go with the shroud that will be made for it and presto. And then my little sniper load out will be complete!
More pictures to come as I finish the LHM24/APS rifle.
