The armourer that had loaded the gun from what I heard, had placed plastic tips on the blanks so that they looked like real rounds from the front of the gun for the camera shot, not realizing that they would become a projectile capable of killing someone. This was to have taken place during the scene where the shop owner that was on the floor had fired at Brandon while he was standing in the doorway.
