If you're on a budget and really wanted a M-249, the Star one is the right choice for you. However...their were complains about feeding problems on the Star M-249, but nothing too serious.
I am not a Star M-249 user, but I have handled the gun at a game a few months back...I was at the receiving end of this gun at the field. One negative impression about this gun it is light and "plasticy" that gives you this toy like feel. That is one reason why I am saving my money for the CA M-249 Para.
