No seriously, I currently work for the child wellfare, I don't know how to call it. Let just say, I work in a "prison" for youth. Im responsible of a unit where we keep the criminals. I'm on the intervention team sometime. When things get rough, we go in and take them out with force.
I did more hardcore jobs in the past, but this one is close to what I'm studying in, criminology.
I said I need the light because when I do the night shift, it's lights out everywhere except in the offices and corridors... When thing get rough, we don't have time to open the nights in the cells or corridors leading to cells, so I use my surefire to make an aproach. If I could make the angry kid (sometime they are bigger and stronger than me...) dissoriented with the strobe, it would be easyer for me, or us, to grab him and reduse the risks of injuries.
I could also use the dimmed lights to inspects the cells. With my surefire, I have to use my hand to refract the light in as to not blind and start an argument, wich is very easy to start with them. I just hate the mini maglights they give us.
And over all, I'm a gear whore when it come to fancy, high tech gadjets.
