Good idea would be to buy some automotive gasket sealer stuff (kinda like silicon jelly) that is used to provide a better seal for gaskets on engine blocks. If you are careful, you can use good needle nosed pliers to unscrew the stock valve (careful, it's brass and quite soft). Once out, you put a small bead of the gasket gel onto the threads, and screw it in place. Then you can put some silicon oil in where the gas comes out and some around the release valve's 'button' then work it in & out a coupel dozen times. Leave it overnight, then try filling it and see if it leaks.
