Okay, my curiosity is piqued, and I know very little of bladed weapons beyond basic metallurgy. And I'm not afraid to ask what may sound like a stupid question: Why ARE the blades curved? To shift the centre of gravity of the weapon? Strength increase through virtual cross-sectional lengthening? Aerodyanmics? Art?

If i'm not mistaken the curved blade increases the cutting area, allowing for a deeper longer cut.
