People aren't supposed to be calling your hits period. Ignore them. There are a lot of short-tempered airsoft players, and they think they "hit you" in some cases, they don't. Probably because they don't break through the foliage.
It's annoying and irritating when you have someone calling your hits.
When you feel it, that's when you call your hit. If are unsure you can also call "HIT" if you must.
Usually if I shoot people and they don't call their hits, I keep shooting them, so should everyone else.
