I have found that wearing a vest is not a great solution unless you are patrolling with a carbine and your long gun is fixed to your back either via rucksack or drag bag. If I dont plan on carrying a carbine, then I will always favour a webbing style setup with whatever pouches I do need on my hips away from my stomach. What I am carrying and how directly involved I plan on being really dictate the belt/webbing set up I would use. Typically as a sniper, observation and communication are the primary tasks filled, so I have minimal gear. I will often move with the main body to ensure I have protection and then peel off to a forward area once I feel I am safe enough to do so. I have never liked a drag bag, unless I am doing long stalks with minimal patrolling. That being said, I do know guys that use drag bags and like them. For what we do in airsoft, I dont really see the need unless its being used to carry your long gun while you patrol with a carbine/AR because you do not need/have a rucksack, but also dont want to just sling your long.
If I were you, I would look into an H Harness and belt system with whatever pouches you need for what you want/like to carry.
