In thick brush using .2g BBs, it's pretty frustrating trying to get a guy even a close distance away, only to see BBs bouncing off leaves and other crap. By the time you fire a couple bursts at him, he knows you are there and will fire back. Switching to .25g BBs, even in a stock gun, will help cut through the brush, even if they move slower. Which is why people like me upgrade, to further push the heavier BBs through brush and through the air faster. I'm only shooting 350fps with my MP5, would like to go a bit higher, like 380fps, but I'm not complaining about the performance I have now.
And I agree that the player should get experienced first with a stock gun, say half a dozen games or so to learn the ropes and to get the nasty edge off (after a few games you start to relax more and get in tune with the environment of the game, learn that if BBs are hitting the thick brush in front of you that you don't need to faceplant to the ground), which can lead to getting startled when a player pops out in front of you, not knowing you are there, and you instinctively level the gun and burst at him. One guy last year showed up for his first game with am upgraded M16A2 and did just that to another guy 10ft away. Couple nice bleeders on the guys face. He fluffed it off since the guy was new, but said he'd be REALLY pissed if the shooter was a vet.
