Yes, the latch was shimmed. Shimming is the process of adding very thin washers, or shims, to the sides of gears and, in this case, the antireversal latch. The purpose is to prevent sideways movement, which can cause damage to gears among other problems. In the case of the ICS M4, the antireversal latch has a lot of sideways movement, and so it's a good practise to shim it.
