I made mine with a base BDU (1 size larger than usual), added netting, then the jute.
Took me 60+houres.
For the hood, I'd go for the hood, because if you go with the boony hat aproach, well, I personnaly don't like it because :
1- it don't break the shape of the head verywell
2- When you turn your head, people see a big lump of grass turning
3- The jute and branches end up sticking you in the neck
4- The boony make your gogle fog like crazy when crawling
5- If you want to remove your hat, you have to hold it somehow in your hand
6- when you crawl in thick brush, it tend to snag on branch and fall on your face or to the ground, making you do unessesary movement to replace it.
After all that, Im converting my ghillie suit to have a hood on it. It wont really muffle the sound, because it's going to be made of thin mesh.
