the decimal used in firearms that precedes the caliber is notational and not mathematical.

Hence a .50 Caliber bullet is actually a 50 cl bullet which is 12.7mm which is .50 of an inch.


if you used the notational period literally then a 4.20 Caliber bullet would be a 106.68mm caliber bullet or a 10 and a half centimeter projectile. Which in the case of the golden gun is actually wider then the total physical dimensions of the gun as it would in reality measure 420 Caliber units. The reason for this is that Caliber is only used to measure objects with a size less than one inch. Anything larger would be measured in inches as Caliber is literally the decimal expression of an inch, hence the notational .xx Caliber in this case.




In actuality the magazine misprinted the article and it should have red 4.2 mm as in the movie it is clearly described as such.
