Just to clarify, placing an Eotech on a railed handguard will not cook your optics. If enough radiant heat is generated to cook your optics, your barrel is already gone.

It's a good idea to not keep the spring compressed but spings actually wear out from use (ie compressing and decompressing). Generally, a spring sitting compressed for a long time will not wear out...
