ACOG

I don't know if this is a double post, but I've seen pictures of CF using ACOGs. I'm assuming these were bought buy the soldiers themselves right? Or is it issue?! I know most guys can get their own kit, so...

Thanks.

Not issued. CF issues elcans.

ssrc30 October 20th, 2008 12:00

The CF doesn't use ACOG. Some of the guys supply their own optics as far as their scope goes. Some find the ELCAN's arent as user friendly as the ACOG.

Just keep in mind that anything bought privately (like ACOG's and vests) are not refunded. So they are nice to have, but they're a kick to your wallet when they break.

Yup an still large numbers of guys go out an buy their own LBE, back packs, rails, sights, boots, etc

Boneyman October 29th, 2008 15:35

I was talking a dude from the CF and he said that they can buy accessories like an optics, grips, and stuff.

Don't really need a specific tasking to have non issue kit.

In Canada, all you gotta be is in an Infantry unit(dunno about other Combat Arms units) or a Secret Squirrel type.

Overseas.. just be in the Battle Group, OMLT or a Secret Squirrel.

Aslong as it's a non-permanent modification like a sight, drop in rail, vert grip, pistol grip, etc it is good to go.

I meant in order to get the Gov't to cover the bill, you need to be doing something specific in which they authorized you to pick up non standard kit.

As far as I know they don't cover the bill for non-issue kit. For the CANSOF guys(JTF an CSOR) it may be a different case, but not for us Regular Soldiers.

The only thing close is you can use it as a deduction(it won't be near the full amount you paid) on your taxes for buying things for work.

IndiaSixTwo October 30th, 2008 00:31

Yeah, the CF does not cover any non-issue items. Ever. The JTF guys purchase everything through the system (meaning purchase orders). One of my good friends from basic is on a team and he has to go that route to get anything. If he buys it himself then he doesn't get reimbursed.

Rukus October 30th, 2008 13:42

Mikel it depends on what ass clown they put in charge of you at the time. I've seen it go either way, one unit you can get away with it, others you can't.

You have to be cautious buying your own kit at times. Some units don't let you wear non issue. I had a buddy that went overseas and they were getting shit on for not wearing the issued Tact Vest. I think it's BS, your having people shoot at you, I would want to wear whatever works for me issued or not. Fucking kit Nazi's. Some units who are sticklers on this have to get out of their heads the idea that the issued stuff is end all for everyone, it isn't always the best and you have to go with what works but common sense isn't always applied. So check with your COC before you go drop a load of money on non issued kit just for the off chance that you may not beable to use it.

The rig I built for myself works better than my issued Tact Vest but on Ex I cannot wear my own rig.

My person Tact Vest holds 10 mags plus all the shit I need, ( I wear it for airsoft to keep in practice with it)
Issued tact vest holds 5 mags, and half the shit I need yet I'm not allowed to wear my own personal rig during training.

Sounds like the people in direct control of your life are exhibiting the classic signs of drug and or alcohol addiction.

Sudden mood changes, irritability, anger, hostility, irresponsible behavior towards self and others.

I suggest an intervention.

Why it could be a TV show. Dump them in the middle of a surprise location with only issue gear, and then broadcast the following cluster fuck.

Ace of Spades© October 30th, 2008 16:21

I have a bud that was an OMLT dude that got issued KAC rails for his C8, paid in full by his unit. Pretty sure that came out of the units budget.

Lot of the time soldier will dip BIG time into savings to purchase stuff that will help them over there and usually nothing is refunded or payed for by the CF (unless you are secret squirrel)
