G&P Marine body Problem

On the marine body the dust cover i am having problems..

i got the rod and the washer thing that helps it not slide out and the cover itself..but there is a circle thin thing with it and i have no clue where it goes..it doesnt seem like a magnet it dont stick to metal or anything..help guys

It's an e-ring, it goes into the groove in the rod after you've installed it, prevents the rod from sliding off by itself.

i know that but its something else the e ring is already around the pipe thing

One e-ring is fixed, and the other you install on the other end of the rod once you get everything together.

My G&P Marine dust cover doesn't have a magnet either. It's for the best anyways. You really don't want that open when you're playing anyways to keep unwanted substances out. As for that thin circle thingy...???

Can you slide your dust cover side-to-side? It maybe a spacer to prevent that. Only thing I can think of what it is.

how does the dust cover stay closed then if it has nothing on it

Mongoose January 31st, 2008 14:09

The spring holds it closed. Your kit should have came with a small spring that is installed on that rod.

MatzelleJ08 January 31st, 2008 14:13

mine doesnt even stay closed

Mongoose January 31st, 2008 14:26

This maybe a stupid question, but did you install the spring properly? You have to wind the spring abit.

ThunderCactus January 31st, 2008 14:29

Ya you didn't put the spring on properly lol

MatzelleJ08 January 31st, 2008 17:02

I think the circle thing your talking about is fill the hole on the other side across from your selector lever. And for your dust cover,,flip over the spring so it hold,s it cloused. Hope this help,s

no it was for the dust cover

G&P metal bodies usually come with a small instruction sheet with pictures of how to disassemble your old receiver and re-assemble the new one. None of this should be a mystery.

You installed the spring for the dust cover "wrong", i.e., you didn't wind the spring to put tension on it, so it's just sitting there. Personally, I hate seeing ARs being used with the dust cover closed, so I swap mine out for the "always open" realistic-looking ones.

The small magnet-looking disc is a cover for the fake fire selector (on the right side of the receiver): see picture #45 in your instruction sheet. (you have to glue it on, btw)
