G&P is a pain to find
 

Ok, so after quite a bit of time searching across all of ASC, Arnies, The Great Google, etc I have come to the decision that its near impossible to find any reviews of any G&P AEG'S, other than the CQB-R, and M249. Even these are light in detail. I have been able to pick up enough info to make a decision from the blurbs that are said on here and the great wide internet (its a series of tubes you know...:rolleyes: ) and the general consensus is that they are solid, and have had somewhat of a CA M-series history. Started out weak and now residing somewhere in the Solid-Excellent category. I have one ordered from 007,The M4 Commando, just waiting for the invoice...curse you weekend! I'm confident in it, but just wondering if anyone has heard more about these AEG's than me.

it's pretty well my teams standard weapon, so I'll fill you in, and the review is the same for every G&P:
simply said, upon arrival it needs to go to a gunsmith to get it's internals shimmed (VERY MANDATORY), and possibly align anything that may be installed off-center (barrel, RIS). And all the G&P armalite I've seen so far don't come with that miracle spring on their hopup unit, meaning the hopup unit isn't always pressed against the mechbox so your hopup is on/off all the time.
Other than that, they're certainly the sturdiest AEG I've held so far (second only to systema), and have the best RIS systems by far. The internals are reliable (very good piston) and should last you a long time as long as you get those gears shimmed before you use them!
Overall it makes a great veteran airsoft gun, in the fact it's an amazing and affordable metal body to house all your awesome internal upgrades you'll eventually put in:)

I'll throw in as a tip, the spring on the hopup unit can be substituted with the spring from a ballpoint pen (the cheap clicky-click kind where the writing tip retracts, like they give out at trade shows with companies' logos printed on them); just cut the spring down to the right length, and it pops on to the hopup unit.

I find it actually works better than the ones G&P supplies with the hopup that comes with their aftermarket receivers (the ones from the pens aren't as stiff and seem to spring back towards the mechbox more easily. Just don't cut it too short.)

I'll add in the G&P AEGs suffer from tappet plate breakge pretty early one, so it's best to replace it with a decent tappet as soon as you can. I've seen the tappet break within the first couple thousand rounds before, and once replaced never a break after.

The only thing on it will be a G&P aimpoint and an Extreme Precision dual threaded suppressor. OH and that reminds me; all the stores say its positive thread, but Redwolf said it too, but also said "just like the TM M4" Ive only ever had negative threads on the TM. Any ideas?

Buddy of mine has the CQB version and it came with positive threads. TM's are all negative threads I believe.

That's an odd one, both my teammate and I have the M249s and after well over 20,000 rounds each theres no sign of wear on the tappet plate. But I have heard that they do break at random in a different thread. Mind you it could just be limited to their M4 series like the classic army guns. CA tappet plates in M4s break all the time, yet I've never heard of that problem in a CA36...

And that's a good idea with the ball point pen, Drake, I'll definitely remember that one :)

Now you are talking about CA guns (in a G&P thread)? G&P Armalites break their tappets pretty early, is well documented on here actually. Am not familiar with any G&P made M249s though.

Ragarding the CA M249, yes, I dealt with one that has had about as many rounds through it as you mentioned that busted the tappet, but the owner insists on an over 400fps spring, so it's expected. Recently he's ripped two pistons to shit, even through just test firing.

search these boards. i've worked on a dozen or so g&p aeg's and posted lots of first hand info.

My son has a G&P M16A3 with over 17,000 rounds through it and a G&P M4 Marine with over 12,000 rounds. No problems with anything (the tappet plates included).

I have had G&P SAM-R under heavy use for about 4 months and it has not failed me yet with no internal upgrades.

I guess like CA, G&P is prone to good and bad manufacturing seasons, sometime they'll be good for a year, sometimes they last you 2 mags. The one part I've seen break on EVERY single G&P gun I've ever worked on save one, is the barrel clip on the hopup chamber. Looks like they make two pieces and glue them together. It requires far more delicate care than would normally be used for removal.

I have two G&P's a M4SO and the M-249 Ranger(up for sale),but the only problem I'v had is that G&P glued the the RAS on the body and it will not come off lol,good,bad,eh! The M4SO has been gamed alot with nothing breaking,but that little barrel clip T.C. mentioned,but other than that nothing.
Run's like a dream,never had to open the gear-box thow(for shimming).And the 249 has only had 2-2.5 box mag's through it,it's only been gamed twice.
