Stock Famas gears with M120 and metal bushing

alright so today i ordered a bunch of stuff for my famas, main parts being a Systema Irregular-Pitch Spring M120 Oil Temper, Area 1000 Aluminum Piston Head and Systema Oiless Metal Bushings. I'm just wondering if the stock gears will be alright with the spring and the bushings

The gears will work for now, but TM monkey metal will crap out quick so I suggest you get new ones as soon as possible. Basically its your gamble for how long you think that gun will run before gear failure. I say get them swapped out quick and m120 can be a little stiff to compress.

alright, next pay check ill purchase some helical gears and a new piston head

You are aware, I'll assume, that FAMAS gears are NOT the same as v2 + v3 gears; that they are proprietary to the FAMAS? They have a different ratio, hence the FAMAS' great rate of fire? You also know that finding said gears are near impossible for a gun that has been out of production for a few years? You also realize that the stock FAMAS EG560 motor is made for high RPM, not high torque, so you stand a much higher chance of damaging the motor?

I'd not take the chance, but it's your money.

uhmmm actually your wrong on the gear portion :P http://airsoftfamastech.jconserv.net/viewtopic.php?t=7
any v2 gears will work with the gear box, all i need is a new piston

Is the FA-MAS gearbox even strong enough to support an M120? Shit, I wouldn't put more than a 120% spring in it.

Learn how to call your hits before you start upgrading that thing, pal. We warned you that it wasn't the best first gun...

The poster in that link is a moron. FAMAS gears have a different/higher ratio than v2/v3 gears, and your suggested spring is going to strip them. Have you ever done any mechbox work? Have you ever worked on a FAMAS in particular? I have, and I can tell you the so-called "expert" from your link is wrong.

You know what? Never mind what I said, I don't know anything. Your gun, your money.

I'm just gonna hang out and wait for the inevitable "WTF happened to my gun?" thread.

And then I'm gonna laugh. Hard. For a long time.

Ah let him do what he wants. His problem, right?

kalnaren September 6th, 2007 00:27

I don't get it. We told him that, for a first gun, the FA-MAS wasn't good. We told him it can barley be upgraded. Yet he gets a FA-MAS. Yet he tries to upgrade it WAY past any point any sane person would recommend upgraded a FA-MAS too. And finally, he argues with people who have worked on FA-MAS grearboxes.

Congrats GreyFox132, you rank about a 9.0 on my dense-head-o-meter.

Interesting. Please do a follow up on the upgrade and then a follow up on how the gun performs (including missfeeds, breaks etc).
