questions about systema PTWs

hows the grouping?
hows the hopup on it?
whats the range? (good, great, ridiculous)
how consistent is each shot?
and is it compatible with most airsoft accessories? (G&P ACOG, AN/PEQ unit)

Exterior mods that rely on rails will fit with no problems, it's all standard.

As for the rest, I'll leave to someone else.

Which cylinder unit are you referring to? Obviously, the M150 cylinder unit has a beastly range compared to the M90 cylinder unit.

The M150 cylinder unit... shoots well beyond 300 feet. I wish I could tell you exactly how far, but it shoots so far so fast that I literally can't see the BB anymore past 300 or maybe 350 feet. It doesn't seem like it'll stop any time soon, either... so in that sense, range is beyond ridiculous... it's ludicrous.

I've never done any grouping shots, so hard for me to give a good opinion on that.

All rail accessories should fit, as they're built on the picatinny/1913 military standard (MIL-STD-1913).

As for shot consistency, I'd say it was average to above average at the given velocity, but not the best I've seen. Testing with Guarder 0.28g BBs yielded these numbers (in fps):

467
471
463
459
451
455
464
451
455
471
463

(fyi, 471fps @ 0.28g is equivalent to 557fps @0.20g)

Thinking of getting one, eh? ;)

Hhahaha nice. Seems like quite a few people are..

I put together a Systema Package just for fun. Turned out to be around 4 grand. Oh lawd how I want one...

Your chrono numbers are what I'd expect to see. I shoot about 455ish with .25g Metal Tech and the M150.

The PTWs have excellant consistancy in the horizontal (ie. the BB's don't fly off to the left or right), easily the best I've seen or used. The vertical is a bit different though. When the hop-up is dialed in perfectly, the BB will drop several inches when it first leaves the barrel, then rise up and fly straight for a long way before finally dropping. You'll notice it if you use a scope or RDS or similar and sight the gun in at say 100 feet or so. You wouldn't be able to hit a popcan at 10 feet relying strictly on the sight. It's weird to see it for the first time, but I guess it has to do with Systemas philosophy regarding hop-up engagement vs. time. I can empty mag after mag on a 1" steel pole from 30-40 feet and hit every single time in semi. The vertical may drift a bit, but the horizontal never does.

I find the range way beyond AEGs even when they shoot the same velocity.

An AN/PEQ is not necessary as the battery for a PTW can only be installed in the crane stock. Mods to do otherwise are extremely iffy and even experienced owners are reluctant to tackle that one. As well, a loaded PTW weighs alot more than any other AEG, and alot more than a real loaded AR.

You may want to pick accessories that save on weight and unless they are 100% functional, you are likely going to want to ditch them. My CQB-R with CASV clone and M910 clone weighs in at just under 11 pounds. Thats like packing a 249 for CQB.

But I feel good knowing that the extra steel that goes into the PTW will likely smash my bones if I tripped and it fell on me. Therefore, in the interests of self-preservation, I take care of it when I'm on the field.

if i were gonna get one, how would i go about importing one into BC? where is that site u are talking about that u can pick the options and stuff?

WarHawk109 August 8th, 2007 21:52

you can't import

you have to go through one of the retailers. I'm getting mine through A&A.

You can't really pick options. When you order a specific model, you get that model. Now, there have been guys who've ordered them and had the retailer exchange cylinders for them, like trade the M150 for an M110 in MAX guns. Mark at A&A did this for some guys a while back, but you'd have to ask him if he'll still do it.

You can order cylinders, batteries and mags from a Canadian retailer or get them from the U.S.. Empire Airsoft is pretty good to deal with and kdogg on ASC works for them. You will save a few dollars going to the U.S., but the biggest benefit is that they have pretty much everything or can get it in a few days if it's available in the U.S..

Got my M4A1 a few weeks ago. Mags got here today.
Never even tried the M150 yet. Put in Modified M130 that supposed to shoot just under 400 FPS with .2's and a 12V battery. I have a 12" x 12" target about 100' away.
My Modified CA M15A4 with tight bore hits the target about 2 out of 3 shots with .25's.
Systema with .25's hits 9 out of 10 shots on single fire. Full auto seems to be even more accurate.
Hope I can get to a game this weekend.

Warhawk put it how it is. You can't.

I put the package together on Anderson and Anderson for sheer a sheer "what if" sort of thing.

I gather you installed an APS spring cut to fashion? I don't get flack for using the M130 locally. On the road is a different story.

WarHawk109 August 8th, 2007 22:08

is it fairly simple to swap APS springs? that's what I plan to do.

speedjunkiesracing August 8th, 2007 22:14

I got a used cyclinder complete from the Systema PTW fourm already made.
There is a list of after market springs to get the result you want.

By the way thanks for all your PTW help Mcguyver.
