Ver 2 mechbox question
 

Are all Version 2 mechbox shells the same? I know that the tappet plates are different but what abouts the shells?

It depends on the receiver...

Any quick takedown Marui receiver will have an open-port gearbox.

Besides the slots cut out in the compression chamber, the gearbox is pretty much exactly the same.

There are the differences that illusion stated. Also some of teh internals have slight difference , slots for piston being different sizes , the trigger post being different sizes (systema's are small then marui and break alot). There are also difference in the overal length and width of certain gearboxes , systema being slightly wider then marui , and i believe classic army being slightly longer. Most ver2 boxes are close enough in tolerance that thier isnt a problem but sometimes you will run into a piston not fitting or a gearbox not fitting in a tight metal body.

I have found the hole for the safety switch cover to be a little tight on the Systema gearboxes requiring a little bit of filing, but otherwise have had good success with them and with G&P reinforced gearboxes.

The stock TM ones will crack near the nozzle when using an upgraded spring.

In which case, yes, there are differences between all the different brands out there.

The biggest being the Pro-Win v2 Armalite gearboxes... versus... everybody else. lol

nah what he is wondering, is if a v2 box for an armalite will work with the mp5 he has. the reason i know this is that he has my hurrican v2 right now and is seeing if it will work.

Okay, so my first impression was correct.

If that's the case, then yes, it will work.

You can even put an MP5 gearbox in to an Armalite receiver, but then you'd lose the quick takedown feature. The only way you could access it from that point forward is if you disassembled it like a metal receiver.

Thanks guys. What is the benifit of the hole in the back of the mechbox where the spring seats on the spring guide?

Also I need to get a metal body now cause all my threads are stripped for my hop up and body.

That's for Armalites that use the quick-takedown feature. ie, you pop out the rear locking pin, and the top receiver swivels away from the lower receiver, hinged by the front pin.

That hole/space allows the plastic receiver tabs to slide past the gearbox without snapping.

Again, you can use a gearbox without those holes... you'll just lose the quick-takedown feature, and the gun will have to be assembled like a metal receiver, where you install the gearbox in to the top receiver, and then build the rest of the gun around that.

If you're going to a metal receiver, then it doesn't even matter which gearbox you use.
