Winter Clothing
 

So, I need a new winter jacket type deal, and I wanted something besides the traditional ski jacket.

I figure the Armed Forces must have some type of cold weather gear in CADPAT, that is surely of better quality than retail stuff. Does anyone have reccomendations for a good winter jacket that can be had at an Army Surplus store?

There's also the old lined parka's that are on eBay every once and awhile. They've got a hood and woolen cuffs and everything!

Unless it doesn't snow in you area during winter, a set of good old snow camo would be far more effective than CadPat. You can wear whatever you want underneath it.

If you still prefer not to use the snow camo, consider getting a used set of GoreTex, US or Canadian, it does much better than regular combat clothing in winter games since it doesn't get wet and get covered in snow and ice especially on the pants.

I'm in Toronto so yes, it snows.

Army Issue, I saw your site I just didn't know which jacket will work for me.

Among the items that caught me eye:

Parklands M65 Parka in CADPAT
US Gore-tex ECWCS(surplus and non-surplus)
M65 Styled CADPAT Combat Coat
USMC Gore-Tex
CF Extreme Combat Cold Parka
Flecktarn Gore-tex set

Could you give me the run-down on those? Which would best suit my needs? Those airforce parkas on page 4 are kinda cool but are they warm enough?

Call me a limp-wristed fashionista, but I like the look of them, and don't want to go to Old Navy for some other cookie cutter parka. Plus I could always use it in a pinch for gaming

Cordura outer and quilted liner with woolen cuffs and collar. I've used them in -10 when I was at EX: Cougar Salvo. The hood is insulated and wraps around your face and neck to keep you warm. If you get some good gloves, a balaclava and the wind pants you'll be toasty.

And the AF parka is the same, but has reflective tape across the chest and back.

Whats the M65 like? What type of weather is it suited for. They look cool but it would be a waste to get one without it being useful.

You would think so but it's rarely the case.

The CF Parka is a good one though that would work well for what you want.

Please don't get a winter Camo jacket to go walking around old roads with. So many stupid people like to do this, specially down Ski-doo trails. And then they bitch when they GET HIT! >.<

I'd go way of what Lerch proposed. Those things are AWESOME! I used to use one when I worked up north in the arctic before I got my deep freeze jacket forget the brand off hand, will have to get back to ya on that. Bought it in a bright orange colour. Got it cause the bombadiar I was working on broke down in the middle of Great Slave Lake. Not the best place to get stuck in the middle of the winter. And far from the warmest.

If it's not too cold. I put a fleese jacket under my cadpat BDU. During the winter, I just stack 2 or 3 fleese jackets, my goretex rainsuit and my winter white. It's hotter than my ski winter coat.

Thats the way to go guys. Dress in layers. I teach my cadets that all the time.
That's why the winter whites are just a shell, because they're meant to go over existing cold weather gear.
Two things that work great are wool and fleece. Reason being, if they're wet, they still insulate. I would suggest looking at kit like IECS. It has multiple layers that will keep you good and toasty.

one of the best things you could do in my perspective wear the wool and fleece but look in the surplus store or arctic winter coat and pants shells there white and water proofish and they are really baggey enough room for 5 layers of clothes or even more but that'd probly be deadly

Why not? layer in some fleese and kevlar. :D

for winter gaming, i wear my snowboarding jacket, snowboard gloves, snowboard pants, a toque, CF winter whites and my vest overtop of it all. Plus Baffin winterboots (waterproof) I have never been cold and have played down to -30 without problems.
