Pistol Lanyward - Help or hindrance?
Just asking for opinions from users.
I'm thinking of getting one of these, but I'm always afraid it will catch on things when crawling/running/rolling around in the bush. Do you only use them when you don't think you'll be crawling through anything? Am I worried over nothing? |
I would suggest getting the lanyard just look at happened to Crispins GGB at Rigaud. If anything you won't loose you GBB. Plus I've never had it snag on anything, I completly forget that it's there.

I used one way back when I started airsoft. Felt I'd lose my pistol.
Love the thing tho, nothing like getting up from prone position and running, then ya feel your siderarm hit your leg. The lanyard I was using, never had any problems with it catching on anything. It kept coiled up and out of the way. |
The few times that I do carry a holster, I didn't have a problem with wearing one also. It might feel uncomfortable when you draw the pistol because of the pull of the lanyard but I think you would get used to it after. It also gives me a sense of added security when I holster my pistol without using the retaining lock on the 6004.
I can let you try my Gemtech lanyard at the next game and you can decide for yourself if it's worth while using one. You know, only the KOOL guys have them. You do want to look good don't you? :-D |
I really only use a lanyard to hold my ghillie pants up or to tow my drag bag behind me when crawling. Lol
Figured I'd post this, found it a while back, a super duper cheap lanyard to make if anyone wants to try one out. http://www.therangerdigest.com/Tips_...___tricks.html |

I've thought about a lanyard for my G19, may try it someday. Better if Vondnik gets a lanyard, that way he won't lose his Hi Capa anymore. |
I have yet to snag my Gemtech on any brush or branches and like Bruce I think the only time it does feel "awkward" is when you pull out the pistol as you feel the coils pulling back on the gun.
|
Thanks alot for the quick replies guys. Sounds like they've never actually made a problem for any of you. I'll just wait a bit to see if anyone else has ever had a problem, and then pick one up fast.
Jakster, Crispin's lost 1911 is exactly what made me think of this. Though he probably wouldn't have lost it with a more secure holster like the Safariland. Still, better safe than sorry... |
I also run a Gemtech TRL and have never had any problems with it.
|
I have a Gemtech lanyard on my Glock sitting in my 6004. Realistically, I don't think I could lose a pistol out of a Safariland 6004 holster if I tried, but it's reasuring to know that if it did somehow come loose it wouldn't be far behind me.
In fact, any holster with active retention pretty much removes the need for the lanyard, if it's the right holster for the hammer you have in it. But again, as stated above, $25 could save you $250 so why not? |
I have the more economic BHI one wich works fine aswell.
Now that you can't loose your sidearm anymore you have to throw on a "Stalker foreskin" on your pistol grip to prevent the loss of mags... Stalker can explain what it is...lol |

DAMN MY EYES!!! I unwittingly commented on Stalkers foreskin!!!!!!! OHHH the shame.
Actually it's a great idea, to save your mags. Go ahead Stalker, tell them about your foreskin. |
I'm gonna guess a cut of inner tube left low enough to keep the mag snug? Just make sure to wash under there every day.
