AirsoftDB - By Joint Operations Calgary

Hey guys, just wanted to post up a project JOC has been working on. Keep in mind this is a work in progress, and we would like to get the eastern canada feedback.

The site is a database with information on most airsoft weapons, information like weapon stock fps, length, weight, etc. There is a basic review system as well, feel free to add a review about weapons you have owned or used.

Airsoft DB <-- link

I have yet to add pistols to the list, but we are currently at 147 guns with AEGs/sniper rifles/LMG's/ and shotguns.

Eventually this will include accessories as well, but that is a long way away. If you find any flaws in the information provided, or have any suggestions, email them to: admin@jocairsoft.com

We are currently in talks with several retailers, to get access to there pricing information, and the site will link directly to the retailers pages.

I hope this site is a good resource for noobs and vets.

I really like the content. For noobs like me picking the 1st gun is easyer with that. Good Job.

Awesome stuff. Any chance of adding editing features for the information to guests, a-la Wikipedia? If it's a matter of technical feasibility, I'd be happy to help code it, cause there's a lot of information about my guns I'd like to add.

mthead March 27th, 2006 17:02

I was going to add the ability for any user to be able to change the content. Maybe down the line i'll add the code, but for now, simple reviews will have to do. I do like the idea of having the community edit the information, but don't like the idea of having to monitor it.

Very cool, this makes choosing an AEG alot easier.

The idea behind the wiki concept is that it would be self regulating; that is that the majority of users would override the griefing of a small percentage of poorly adjusted individuals.

Good idea in concept, but things can get out of hand.

mthead March 28th, 2006 02:18

yeah, i good chunk of code, would store previous changes, and allow you to revert to any stage of a weapons information. That will increase the size of the database by an extreme amount, as well as increase the complexity of the code something fearse. If i get slow at work any time soon, i'll write that up, but only if it gets to be a pain updating the db with current info

mthead May 16th, 2006 18:28

updated the site, added a public 'add weapon' feature. now any weapons missing can be added by the community

Um, some reason there is a picture of a real cartridge for the logo of an airsoft database? Noobs and the uneducated public are confused and ill informed enough, don't you think?

mthead May 16th, 2006 18:45

leave it to asc to find someone who will cut anything apart.

Gryphon May 16th, 2006 19:42

You ASKED for feedback, genius.

mthead May 16th, 2006 19:56

lol i don't care about the logo etc. I care about content. People won't visit the site to see my logo. They come for the information provided.

and quick question, why be insulting?

give ya a tip... constructive posts:

maybe offer some suggestions, if all that you can find wrong with the site is a logo, then throw out some positive things, then maybe suggest some changes, obviously i'm no graphic artist. maybe you know someone who knows someone who could help out. just being negative dosn't help anyone.

Maybe you dont like the way he said it, but the comment about the bullet is valid. If we can find it to be a possible quirk, imagine what the un-informed will think?

Secondly, the terminology used; airsoft are not weapons. That too has a meaning to the un-informed. They are not guns either. Use the word 'models', types, anything except what can be seen as a tool to kill something or someone.

Third; spell-check. There are spelling errors on the main page, and on the 'add weapon' page (I stopped looking then). That gives an immediate bad impression, looks unprofessional.

That's as constructive as I will get unless you pay me.
