How much barrel inside a suppressor?

Curious how much barrel usually is hidden within a suppressor?

As much as you want... Just dont go too short of barrel with a long suppressor or the bb may hit the end before it clears. Either use the entire length to get the most out of a longer barrel, or end the barrel an inch or so from the end and get a cool pop sound, it does suppress a little or atleast gives you a different sound without one.

thats good information.
I am P*'ing my M4 soon and want to keep the sound down as much as possible.
So would that be to end an inch or so from the end of the suppressor?

why do you need ANY barrel inside the suppressor?
You're getting a P*, which is pretty much the greatest platform besides a GBBR to run a short barrel for maximum accuracy

Not quite sure what you mean by this part

He is asking why you need a barrel longer then what is stock on the platform without the can.

dont put any of the inner into the can, the more barrel you have going into the can, the less effective it is at muffling the report.

Fatter cans work better with P* vs longer. Length still plays a big factor, but the fatter the better. The type of foam also plays a roll, from my playing around with recording the report and using a sound meter from work would suggest that the softer, less dense foam works better.

That makes more sense.
So a fatter, shorter can with less dense foam is the money zone with a P*?

What Renegade) said is very important from my experience. I have a suppresor which causes the round to hit it's lip, sending the round down at a sharp angle. My next project, if I use that can, will have a 20" inner, wrapped inside a 14.5" barrel and 6" suppressor

Maybe an AEG is different from a P*, but I had a phase where I would try to build really quiet AEGs. I found that as long as the suppressor went at least one inch or so past the barrel, the difference between one inch and the full suppressor was pretty much not noticeable. I tried making a suppressor with multiple chambers too, that also made no difference lol.

Same with my VSR, only used an inch of the suppressor and it was dead quiet, but due to other reasons as well (no air brake though)
P*s are naturally dead quiet to start with
The point is you don't NEED a longer barrel.
You can be turning around at full speed, fire a shot, and it still wouldn't hit the lip of a 12" long suppressor.
If you have a suppressor that has that issue, it's because it's mounted at an angle. Airsoft tolerances are crap, and there's no kind of conceivable standard on their threads, so it's not surprising that most suppressors fit loose and mount on angles.
