Upgrade Advice.
 

Hey guys, I have a JG M4 (Velocity Arms V4S) that I bought a year ago and I'm wondering what I should do to make it a better machine. First off, if this makes any difference, I pick my shots, don't really full auto unless the situation calls for it, so ROF isin't really important to me. I just to make it a decent outdoors weapon that can reach my target from a fair distance away and get through the light brush when needed, but I have no idea where to start. All I know is to get a tightbore barrel, but thats about it.
I've read the stickies, etc, but I am still quite unsure. Help me ASC!

Perhaps slightly higher rated spring(360-380 FPS would be alright)

What's your FPS?

I have the same gun and with stock internals, the gun was in the 400 fps range.

If you upgrade too much, you'll go higher than the limit.

It shoots around 400 as well, but it doesn't seem to have the range everyone else does, nor the accuracy (or I just suck). If I was to upgrade anything, I would defenitely change up the spring to compensate for that.

best upgrade for accuracy and that's cheap is heavier bbs. after that is install an SCS and new bucking. Last but not least is a tightbore.

Ah, very valid point i missed HKGhost, Heavier BB's can make all the difference. What do you use now OP?

Right now I use .2's, should I try .25's for outdoors?

.28g minimum from my experience... it makes a world of difference.

Silica BB's are the best ( bastards ) if your friends don't get their panties in a bunch about you using them. ( they are alot harder then normal BB's. )

Use heavier BB's. Clean your barrel and hopup rubber.

Yes, 0.25's are pretty much a minimum for outdoor games.
If you're using 0.20's with a 400fps gun, no wonder you're getting bad range and bad accuracy.

Personally, I tend to replace the hopup rubber in my AEGs and install a tightbore. If the internals are working well, I tend to not mess with them unless they need them.

Now, your gun already shoots 400, so chances are, installing a better rubber and a tightbore will actually put you well over 400 fps, which will be over most fields' regulation limit.

Based on what you stated, this would be my recommendation. Others may agree or disagree, but this is what I tend to use and anyone who's shot one of my upgraded or custom built AEGs will be able to back me up on their performance.

Gearbox Internals:

Modify S100 spring - Gives me a nice velocity of about 360-370 on its own.

Bearing spring guide - By removing any torque in my spring when compressing and releasing, it makes for more consistency from shot to shot. Again, I like Modify. Good parts for a reasonable price. Never had issues.

Torque-up gears - I like rapid trigger response. I want my shots to feel like I'm pulling the trigger on a real gun in semi, and not have that delay of the gears winding up. I'm not big on high ROF, so these work well for me. I'm a BIG fan of the Modify smooth modular gear set.

Torque-up motor - 2 favorite motors are Guarder Infinite Torque and Systema Magnum. Systema is more expensive and has better speed. In terms of torque, both will turn over a gearbox extremely rapidly, especially if paired with torque-up gears.

Other parts:

Hopup rubber - JG rubbers tend to be low quality and provide crappy air seal. I've taken a good liking to Guarder Clear hopups. IN higher velocity guns, they tend to wear out a bit faster than the harder Guarder Black intended for higher velocities, but the clears have always performed best for me. They give me insane range out of any gun I have them installed in, and in many cases, will also increase my velocity. Any good quality rubber and nub will be good though.

Tightbore barrel - this will be key to your accuracy. A tightbore + good hopup can make or break the gun in terms of range. And of course, if means nothing to get insane range if you can't hit anything. This will be the key part for accuracy. I like the Madbull Black Python and have gotten great results. Others "poo poo" them because they're inexpensive compared to the more expensive brands. Let your wallet be the guide, but don't go for the really cheap ones.

All these parts combined should give you a very good rifle with good range, accuracy, consistency, and insane trigger response.

Now there's the other aspect here of cost. You've got a rather low cost JG, and adding all these upgrades will basically add up to almost the cost of the original gun. If you're ok with that, then great. If that seems to expensive for you considering the cost of the base gun (and I admit it's a lot of upgrades for a JG), then you can work on just what you need. That first choice for me would be the hopup rubber and barrel. Just be aware that these 2 upgrades will probably require you to downgrade your spring as well.

And as mentioned - heavy BBs. .20 are really useless outside of CQB. .25g should be the minimum outdoors, and preferably .28. Once you get used to .28, you'll never want to use anything else.
