How many Magazines do you guys carry?

I was wondering how many magazines people carry during a game. And is it different for indoor/outdoor.

Donster October 20th, 2008 23:06

well once i buy themn all, im going to carry 6 low caps (each holds 70 round) for my M14.

For my pistol, when i get it, im going to carry 3 mags (maybe 4 if i find that i need it)

theshaneler October 20th, 2008 23:08

my vest can hold up to 10 mags comfortably, but i rarely actually bring 10 i usually bring 8 lowcaps.
or i can eliminate the how many mags issue and slap on the drum mag :p
i have an M4 if it makes a difference

MrEvolution October 20th, 2008 23:09

M4A1: Six 68 Round DBoys Standard Caps.
CAR15: Ten 20 Round STAR Low Caps, Four 85 round (i think) TM Mid Caps (all VN Sized.)
Thompson: One 60 Round TM Standard, Two 190 Round TM Highcaps (They fit in the WW2 Webbing the best, but I load them to 60 rounds as well.)

DJBackfire October 20th, 2008 23:09

ok, so like 9 or 10 then. I have 5 high cap mags and im going to get 5 low cap mags for my mp7. So i was wondering if i should just get a vest that could fit 5 or so

littlerobz October 20th, 2008 23:11

6 for the PTW. That's all I have. Would carry more but I have what I have. As many as possible should be the answer. Nothing sucks more than leaving a firefight because your out of ammo. Usually have 3 mags for the sidearm. Used to carry 12 lowcaps when using a CA M15.

High Caps = Lame. They are good for loaner guns or backup guns that you need in a pinch. For your primary Low-caps are King. They dont have to be wound, meet field limits (if there are any), and dont make noise when you run.

DJBackfire October 20th, 2008 23:13

ok, so does anyone have any idea where i can get a vest that can fit 5 high cap(100rd) magazines and 5 low cap(50rd). They are both star magazines for the mp7.

Crunchmeister October 20th, 2008 23:13

My guns are mostly Armalites. I carry 6 x 68 round mags, plus 4 x 120, as well as the one 68 rounder in my gun. I also carry a 400 round speedloader. I never usually go through more than 5 or 6 mags at most. And often, I find myself reloading used mags from my drop pouch at the respawn points anyway... So really, I could very easily get by with 6 mags.

DENZILDON October 20th, 2008 23:32

15 x KA 68 rnds when I still had my AEG

7 mags now with the PTW.

DJBackfire October 20th, 2008 23:34

ok so i wasn't thinking i was going over bored with the ten mags

SOCINCO October 20th, 2008 23:35

i carry 10 STD METAL MAG (68RD each), and one high CAP, two pistol mag!!

Nah, I shoot a lot that's why I carry 15 mags.

Deftonius October 20th, 2008 23:40

10 mags, 30 rounds a piece.

mcguyver October 20th, 2008 23:41

Carry the minimum amount of mags you think you need. Every player has different capabilities and firing attributes.

For me, I can get by with 5 mags for the PTW (1 in the gun and 4 back-up) with tha capacity to re-load them at least 2 times. That's 1500+ rounds in semi-auto, and is fine for most games. For heavy fire games like the Battlefield series, I carry the same plus an extra 3,000 rounds loose as it were.

FOX_111 October 20th, 2008 23:44

P90: 6 lowcaps
M24: 3 mags (possible to carry up to 5, but they are still in the box)
L96: usually 3 mags is enough, but I have more for those long deployment.

Both MK23 and M9 deploy with 3 mags each. I carry only one pistol though.

Skladfin October 21st, 2008 00:24

2 hicaps usually

or 2 lowcaps when BA Snipering... don't need many ammo...

Styrak October 21st, 2008 00:54

Outdoors:
- 8x AUG lowcaps 80 rounds each + 1 in the gun (currently I only have 4 lowcaps but I'm getting more)
- 4x 31 round Hicapa mags + 1 in the gun

Indoor:
-Hicapa only with 5 mags total

Amos October 21st, 2008 00:58

four 55 round VSR-10 mags, four 21 round USP mags.

DJBackfire October 21st, 2008 01:04

ok sounds good then, I have another question. I'm a left handed shooter and i cant figure out which side to put my drop pouch on, for the spent mags. do I put it on my right, so i can use my right for changing mags too or on my left. Also do i put the majority of full mags on my left side or does it matter

Skladfin October 21st, 2008 01:08

should be your right, because left handers usually take out the mags with their right.

Also, put your Full Mags on your right side as well. Your right hand is the one that will be free, your left will be holding the gun.

Renegade) October 21st, 2008 01:34

Depending on Ammo limits for the game, anywhere from 6-10 Low caps, 3-5 hi caps, these are all VN mags for my SPR or M16VN so hicaps are only 190 rounds. Carry whatever u can fit, I recomend getting a M16 style TM mag loader, theres about 6 mags worth to refill right on in the field to keep u goin on longer games.

Styrak October 21st, 2008 01:35

In milsims like we have here, loaders aren't allowed.

White_knight October 21st, 2008 01:40

4 in my front pouches, 4-6 in the internal, i can carry up to 16 tho

Yea, as I said, depends on the limits for the game scenario, general skirmishes go nuts carry 10 hicaps if u want, usual milsims any combo under 1000 rounds loaded, reload only at respawn points ect.

Saint_blackhand October 21st, 2008 01:52

I carry:
Ak-47 8 high caps, one drum. on sims the plan is for atleast 12 mids or if ammo limit for mids 12 lows.

m4 16 or so high caps, I am building something amazing and very high speed.

Schlyder October 21st, 2008 02:16

8 x 58 round lowcap for a CA53A2. And I will have 3 or 4 for a sidearm.(P229)

zone 69 October 21st, 2008 02:37

When useing my M4 I carry 5x, 60/68rd midcaps & 2x,300rd HIcap & 1x,190rd VN midcap/hicap & 1x BB loader mag.
My Pistol I carry 2x mags one in the gun & 1 in a pouch + 1x BB loader mag.

I rarely use up the 5x midcaps a game day and all most never have to use my pistol playing on a outdoor field.

Kuro_Neko October 21st, 2008 03:16

M4: 12 plus 1 in the gun. (30 rd Star realcaps)
M9: 1 plus 1 in the gun. (25 rd mags but I realcap them at 15 rds)
AK47: 6 plus 1 in the gun (30 rd Star realcaps)

are you serious? how much ammo do you use per game?

Styrak October 21st, 2008 03:51

Obviously there's no limits. Not very mil-sim-y.

Unless that's for skirmishes.

surebet October 21st, 2008 04:16

8 mids (110) plus a OH SHI- panic button in the form of a high cap (300).

Usually more than enough to last me the whole day, but I'm looking at EB's PMAGs and I'm getting an itch to get a slew of 30 rounders.

damage October 21st, 2008 05:13

12 Mids and 2-4highs

Styrak October 21st, 2008 05:18

Holy shit why do you people carry so much ammo?

pusangani October 21st, 2008 05:28

6 mids for me, and a hi-cap (if allowed to) just in case

TokyoSeven October 21st, 2008 05:32

On my old loadout I used to carry 24 x 68 round mags. 18 in the vest and 5 in a side pouch plus one in the gun. 4 x pistol mags, 3 in a pouch 1 in gun. If I was wearing my special rigged backpack I could carry an additional 12 M4 Mags.

On my current loadout I now carry 7 x 68 round mags. 6 in vest one in gun.
2 x 50 round MP7 mag and 1 x 20 round MP7 Mag

Roughneck October 21st, 2008 07:46

Outdoor:
M14 with 6 mags (70rds)
M249 with one box (2500rds) Have a second box mag to carry for big games
TM 1911A1 with 4 mags (26rds)
M1A1 Thompson with 6 mid caps (110rds)

Indoor:
TM M3 CQB custom with 18 shells (30rds/10 trigger pulls)
TM 1911A1 x2 with 6 mags (26rds)

Add the kitchen sink and all the contents of the fridge.

Wilson October 21st, 2008 09:07

I'm loaded out with ten 30-round realcap mags in my carrier's pouches (five double-mag pouches) and one in my rifle. With that I already feel too bulky, I couldn't imagine a whole other row of mags on top of that.

m102404 October 21st, 2008 09:21

If it's an ammo limited game...I'll spread the rounds out evenly between the mags that best fit the rig I'm wearing to the game. I'll sometimes load one hold-out mag with a bit more.

I've only got 9 mags for my FAL...but find I only use 6-7 of them regularly.

12 mags for my M4...but 2 are usually accessible to teammates so they can grab one if they run dry.

I run 2-3 mags in CQB...the skirmishes rarely last longer than a mag...maybe two. Drop leg, weak side seems to work well for that.

3-4 pistol mags...2 would probably be enough...but pistols are sooooo much fun.

In short, think about what you're getting into...what type of game and who the other people are...load out accordingly. Then take one extra, just in case. :D

Brakoo October 21st, 2008 09:24

My heavier loadout allows me to carry 10 mags on me and 1 mag in the rifle. Depending on the gun I'm using I might go much lighter. As for the sidearm I can carry 5 x 1911 mags loaded with real capacity most of the time or 3 x P226 mags for a lighter setup.

Whenever I go out with the M249 I end up carrying one boxmag capped to 400 rounds and 6 x M4 mags in a SAW pouch.

In the end it's all about adapting to the game and players you're gonna playing with. I mean in some cases I'll go with 11 mags loaded as realcaps while for other type of game I'll end up going with 7 mags loaded as lowcaps.

AngelusNex October 21st, 2008 11:21

I now carry 10 30rnd star pmags, 3 KA 90rnd (I think) VN mags and sometimes I throw in my hicap as a backup if I plan to stick to auto all day. Usually (like at really big games) I only go through about 300 rnds. I'm very selective with my shots.

Ace of Spades© October 21st, 2008 11:25

I usually have 8+1 30 round mags in my chest rig and if needed will sometimes pack more into a backpack for Milsim. But when your on break or a lull in the action, its always best to rebomb up those that you have used.

Darklen October 21st, 2008 12:31

13 Armalite mags (all metal lowcaps), 12 in my plate carrier, one in the gun. I can carry 16 armalite mags in my Arktis Sigma vest once I pull out the inserts. If I run with one of my G36's, 10 lowcaps, 8 in the vest, two clipped together in the gun.

If it has been built I can break it.

One mag. 70 shots is a lot for a DM who never runs. d:

DJBackfire October 21st, 2008 20:34

ok sounds good people, ill just use the ten mags i have right now then. I just need to find a rig that will fit the 5 high cap and 5 low cap, i have

Amos October 21st, 2008 20:46

Jesus what's with people using multiple high-caps?

I can go an entire game with only one... and I shoot ALOT when I have semi-auto or full-auto...

[BE]vinni October 22nd, 2008 14:41

I use 10 to 12 star realcaps for my M4, depending on what vest i use

coach October 22nd, 2008 15:10

Full load out:

12 + 1 M4 mags - all mid caps ranging from 110 - 170 rds, plus 2 low caps

3 x TM G17 mags
2 x HFC G17 mags
2 x WE p14 mags

basically carry a 2000 count bag of BB's in all mags, PLUS BB's in nades. :) 5 x M922A1, 2 x XMPB4, 1 x XM204HP

LouisZimmerman October 22nd, 2008 15:21

Rifle: 5 x 80 Rnd.

Pistol: 1 x 25 Rnd. (Would be 3 x 25 Rnd., but spare mags are impossible to find)
OR 4 x 15 Rnd.
(Depending on what I'm carrying that day).

Conscript October 22nd, 2008 15:31

I carry 5, 110 Midcaps in my '47, and two Highcaps for my Glock 18c AEP.

what is to you?? I don't remember someone asking what you thought, just what you carry. If you play at the front you tend to shoot more. If you hide behind bushes waiting for others to make any moves you tend to shoot less. I carry 7 120 rnd mags with 2 470 rnd loaders.

Retro October 22nd, 2008 17:10

gonna be carrying 5 m14 low caps and 3 m9 mags.

It's because people tend to spray so much and think they have unlimited ammo like video games.

In reality, a field combat soldier has so many other gears to carry that he'll try to minimize the weight as much as possible.

Try to walk/run in 30kg ~ 40kg gears for a couple of hours of patrol while posing in various positions for the sake of saving your life from crossfire, and see if one can last that long carrying that much ammo.

People should learn how to save ammo and shoot when necessary. Sometimes, a mission can be completed without firing a single shot.

ShelledPants October 22nd, 2008 17:36

I carry 7 x 68 rounds King Arms mags loaded to 38 to account for feeding.
4 x 10 round HiCapa Mags
1x 200 round Tornado.

In regards to hicaps, I don't mind other people using them so long as it's not a milsim. I figure if your experience isn't ruined by sounding like you're smuggling Smarties, why should mine: It makes you a louder target.

jtjcheng October 22nd, 2008 17:40

I carry 5 CA 30rd metal realcaps, one of the most realistic loadouts for patrol (i.e. 4 ~ 5 mags).

If it's a mission, then I'll carry up to 10 CA 30rd metal realcaps.

I just have one M9 pistol mag though, so I guess that this is the part where I'm not realistic enough.

I've been trying to limit my ammo to simulate a real combat situation. If you're very much into milsim, then you can try doing the same. I'm sure that it's rewarding, especially when you know that you're going to run out of ammo, you'll have to be even more stealthy and retreat when it's necessary, or ask your teammates for fire support, and so on.

Sha Do October 22nd, 2008 18:13

LOL...tonnes of replies, comments, and ammo.
The set you are looking at is good (5 and 5), I'd just work out the high cap mags for low caps when you budget allows. 10 (68 rnd) mags for primary should go a long way unless you're a support gunner....or do a lot of hosing.

Personally, for mil sim I use;
-Assault kit; 10 68 rnd mags for primary
-Recon kit; 5 68 rnd mags for primary
-Sniper kit; 3 25 rnd mags for primary
For scrims I load up everything I have and save trips off the field and waste time with reloading... (14 68 rnd mags), a small bag of BBs, and a speed loader.

I never go through all my loaded mags, but I tend to hand a couple out during fire fights to my squad when they run out.

For BW2, I didn't even fire off half my load out. The entire day I think I used maybe 300 rounds with several intensive fire fights.

warbird October 22nd, 2008 19:42

I carry 5x 95 round G36 mags and one highcap.
Pretty much any vest should do the job, if you've got an M4. Any specific color or price range?

LUTNIT October 22nd, 2008 20:28

13 x 120rnd Pmags if using M4
12 x 70rnd lowcaps if using M14
19 x 30rnd STAR mags if using AK (or 5 x 140rnd midcaps if going light)
1 x 4000rnd boxmag if using M60E4

5 x 31rnd pistol mags (except when its too cold to use a GBB)

Rarely use em all, never use more than ~400rnds before respawning (to adhere to ammo limits), have had too many bags of BB's and loaders stolen from respawn to want to keep anything there anymore and I don't want to run around with loaders in my kit as it sounds like I have 1000 rattle snakes in my backpack.

For milsim games I just load all my mags with 33rnds each and try to keep my loader quiet as I still don't want to leave it at respawn. Some people have chewed me out for carrying loaders and BB's in the field at games that specifically outlaw it (I only reload in designated areas), but unless someone is willing to pay me the $150 in lost BB's and loaders I have had stolen in the past 2 years, their staying with me.

An m4 vest will work if your high caps are the long style. You can fit 3 of those in 1 m4 pocket. If you bought a crossdraw vest you could load 3 lows in the pistol mag pockets, 5 high caps in the m4 pockets, and 1 low in the gun.
Or you could buy a molle vest and get 1 double m4 pouche, or 2 triple mp5 pouches, and 2 double pistol mag pouches and have a low in the gun. And for both set ups a dump pouche is very useful.

Myself I am using:
M4 - 5 120rd mags
MP7 - 6 50rd mags
Glock 23 - 2 21rd mags

Muffin October 24th, 2008 17:05

Use low caps, they're delicious. I'm grabbing myself 10 O.D. KA M4 lowcaps(metal).
As per your request for a MP7 vest I'd suggest going with a Molle setup. You can buy how ever many mag pouches you want, perhaps MP5 pouches would hold them? I'm not sure of the dimensions of the MP7 mags.

DJBackfire October 24th, 2008 18:52

ok, sounds good

Daviday October 24th, 2008 19:35

10 to 12 for me, there all low-caps though.

BootYourFace October 26th, 2008 19:21

I carry as much as my rig will allow. When I do The Wiking, I use stg44 mags for my ak47. So i carry 6 plus one in the gun.

For my russian kit, I carry 8 in the vest, and 1 in the gun.

Lerch October 26th, 2008 19:29

In my webbing I have 12 mags, in my Warlord I have 9...plus one in the gun ;)

Tankdude October 26th, 2008 19:53

I carry 18 M14 locaps. Custom belt.

Most likely will be cut down to 4 for indoors.

Kos-Mos October 26th, 2008 20:21

In your specific case, I would recommend getting the 50 rounds long "low" caps and use a light MP5 vest.

10 x 50 rounders should be nice enought. Worst case, you can carry an extra highcap for backup.

Since the MP7 is not upgradeable to high FPS (usually maxed at 350 with a LOT of upgrade), you really should consider running VERY light and be able to sneak close to your enemy.

As for my load-out:

Right now:

5 x 80 rounds AUG lowcaps.
1 x adapter to use M4 mag + 1 x 180 rounds VN highcap (for backup).

Next:

2 x 500 rounds G36 Beta-C drum mags (for a bit of added realism... gotta reload sometime).

I have a CIRAS replica with fake strike plate, and I tend to overload with goodies (spare batteries, food, water+++, clothes, BBs and loader when allowed, teamate's water and food). Don't do the same mistake...

I agree. I try not to leave anything valuable or usable at the respawn. I usually trust who I play with, but It's good mesures. I have a dedicated pouch for my bag of BB and loader on my vest. It's made in a way so the loose BBs don't rattle, even those in the loader.

DJBackfire October 28th, 2008 18:55

What is classified as a regular magazine. I found a vest that i like but it does not actually say what size of mags it can fit. http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/vest-11-cqb-lbv-od.html. Can anyone please help me

TokyoSeven October 28th, 2008 19:02

The pouches in the vest you linked look like they can hold AK style magazines. Although Im sure you can stick AUG, G36, Sig and M4 mags in there as well.

pusangani October 28th, 2008 19:05

description says "virtually any magazine" seeing as you're using an mp7 you shouldn't have a problem

DJBackfire October 28th, 2008 19:07

ok, i was going to assume that they would fit but i just wanted to make sure. Also would the pouches fit only one magazine or two

pusangani October 28th, 2008 19:09

i would say at least 2 easily

DJBackfire October 28th, 2008 19:10

ok cool, thanks for the help

HeadlessChicken October 28th, 2008 19:46

I just got my vest in, can hold 4 mags for my CA36 (I'm thinking midcap 140rds) and there are 8 pistol mag sized pockets but I doubt it would be comfortable with all 8 filled. Plus I have yet to pickup a pistol backup.

DJBackfire October 28th, 2008 20:01

cool and im sure that with all 8 filled it wont feel that great and you may not be able to move that well in it.

coach October 28th, 2008 21:16

If you can find it, there's a BHI vest that is designed to hold 12 x 40mm grenades but fits mp7 mags very well. 12 pouches on the right side and then 3 m4/16 pouches on the left that can be used for a pistol and other stuff.

Duckman runs that rig and says it's great for either setups. I don't see it on their web site but I'm sure there are similar vests out there.

shadowninja October 28th, 2008 21:18

Although I do want to get 2 or 3 mid's (probably between 60-110-ish capacity each) when I don't feel like carrying all those lows.

As much needed to take a person down, and if that person doesn't feel it, I shall take out the box magazine.

I used the following for one Skrim on Sunday. A box would have made things lighter! (2nd Normandy run)

6 x 110 rd mid cap
3 x 130 rd mid cap
2 x 170 rd mid cap
3 x 25 rd pistol mags
2 x 204 rd king nades (XM204HP)
4 x 108 rd cherries (XM108HP)
3 x 120 rd golds (M922A1)
1 x 50 rd multipurpose nade (XMPB4)

I had some minor feed issues with a few of the M4 mags but had maybe 220 combined rounds left. Of the pistols I had 1 round left as the gas on one of the G17's ran out.

Normally I wouldn't use that much but it was my last game for the day and it was easier to unload that way. Funny thing is I had more kills with the pistols and nades then the M4. :banghead:

DJBackfire October 29th, 2008 21:47

Holy that is alot of mags you used, but on the other hand it would have been a pretty good way to unload them all

JHahahahah good one!

I usualy carry 9xM4 mags (G&G M4 Mag 50rnds) and 3x1911 (WE Mags 15rnds) mags with me. That's enough for me... Might carry less or more depending for the scenario...

And I do carry a laptop when I go take a dump. ASCing while taking a shit is always nice.
