ParaScope Urban Combat Sight

Quote:

The ParaScope™ Urban Combat Sight was developed by MTC Technologies through the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency to allow the shooter to engage targets from behind a protective barrier with minimal exposure to return fire. It is designed to reduce warfighter vulnerability in active combat situations. ParaScope™ incorporates a unique optical design that allows for crisp natural viewing of the target area from either its side or rear ports without any mirror inversion or distortion. It is a fully ruggedized 1x optical sight that is compatable with a wide variety of weapon sights including 1x tactical scopes, magnified weapon sights, laser designators and iron sights. The ParaScope™ is compatible with any caliber weapon including rifles, shotguns and less lethal weapons (gas guns) fitted with a picatinny rail.

Using the side port capability of ParaScope™, targets may be engaged from the safety of a protective barrier using a variety of conventional and side firing positions. No adjustments need be made when transitioning between firing positions. Soldiers can also engage targets conventionally by sight using two eyes open through the rear port of ParaScope™. ParaScope™delivers a new capability to the urban combat tactical environment for safely identifying and firing upon targets.

szetor February 11th, 2008 01:33

but but.. its hideous
... nvm i just watched the video, now i want one

Danke February 11th, 2008 02:01

Aimpoint also.

LeapingLizard February 11th, 2008 02:06

Waiting for a replica...(I can hope)

Wonder if the refs will nail you for blind firing though.

T_A_N_K February 11th, 2008 02:30

Looks like a poor mans corner shot, and techincally you wouldn't be firing blind.

tunabreath February 11th, 2008 02:31

This one looks like the first one that you can look through both normally with the gun shouldered, and also from the side through the mirror, probably without any switches or toggles to deal with either.

I think I still like the Mirror Shot more, just for the built in BUIS.

Styrak February 11th, 2008 03:15

Looks...interesting to say the least.

I suppose it would be cool for real guns and what not. I cant really see it being to amazingly overly useful in airsoft, well somewhat not but entirely.

Its a little late and Im just dozing in and out right now, so its hard for me to formulate my point, but the jist of it is, firing the gun upright it would work fine, but attempting to lay down for fire your AEG on its side wouldnt work so well, or so I think it wouldnt atleast because wouldnt the hopup spin the BB so it wouldnt be accurate when fired sideways. Im sure someone understands what I mean.

i dont have it nor do i know anyone who does, but it seems like itll do the trick. if anyone has it lemme know how well it works! only prob i can see is that it only works on aimpoints...would be pretty spiffy with an eotech!

Wow, good find.

Jimski February 11th, 2008 08:23

is it technically still blind fire?

AngelusNex February 11th, 2008 12:01

O.o I was planning on building one of these and feeling very intelligent because I invented it..... f*cker beet me too it...

ThunderCactus February 11th, 2008 13:00

takes blind firing to a whole new level lol

JTF27 February 11th, 2008 13:12

Not really blind firing seeing that you can see if someone is to close to fire.

But just imagine if everyone at a game was using one of these things....a lot of looking around and no one able to take a shot because there's noting to shoot at other than these periscopes sticking out from everywhere....

Why bother....

Danke February 11th, 2008 13:31

Shoot zee periscope.

ShaneF February 11th, 2008 14:05

I'm just curious to know why others think blind firing should be/is illegal.

I know it allows you to make sure you're not shooting someone in the nads from 2ft away and you can't tell if you're gun was hit from around a corner. But I also know it's not very realistic, which is something airsoft prides iteself on, as blind firing happens in real combat because you're more worried about your own welfare than your enemy's.

I personally don't blindfire for the reasons stated above and I feel it's a cheap tactic but I'm curious as you why it's not more accepted in a sport where realism often takes precedent. Just playing devil's advocate.

TokyoSeven February 11th, 2008 14:09

I dont feel that it should be illegal, just that it should be used with discretion, extreme discretion.

like extremely slow semi-auto only or else it's just not realistic

romeo sierra February 11th, 2008 16:30

proud tactical makes a corner shot for airsoft. i believe it's meant to mount onto an aimpoit, or acog. can't remember and their site is down.

Shit dude, good find. Didn't know that existed. For $50, that's pretty cool.

No, since you're aiming it's no longer blind.

FOX_111 February 11th, 2008 20:39

The problem I see with those periscope, is the narrow FOV they will give you. It won't be as safe as sticking your head out to aim. But I'd still allow it.

1200$ for the 1st model is just plain old anal rape with sand! I'd never pay for a bunch of mirrors and lenses like that. Unless it can be straped to my Nikon D200 and make damn nice photos!

True, but technically you only really need to see where the gun is pointed, and you really should be paying attention to what's around the corner, etc. first anyway, even if you aren't going to remain exposed to fire. The same type of tunnel vision applies to magnified scopes as well.

They do have right angle viewfinder adapters for SLRs/dSLRs :) (and they're about $150, too :P )

i think in a real life situation, the narrow field of view more than makes up for NOT having to stick your head out and aim. but in airsoft...it just seems pretty awesome to have another advantage (and accessory for the gear whores like me).
