Uncomfortable kneepads.

I recently picked up a pair of k neepads from army issue and damn if they are not the most uncomfortable things I've ever worn.

The straps dig into the back of my knees when I crouch, lossening the straps helps a bit but then they're too unstable while running.

Does anyone else have probelms with their knee pads? Any suggestions? Here's a picture of what the pads look like:

Thanks.

Yeah I have a similar problem, mostly because I have thicker legs and they're a little tight tho.

Keep the upper strap loose and the lower strap tight. That way, they don't fall down and are confortable when crouching.

Neoprene kneepads...I own a pair and find them quite comfortable.

haha i think it happens to lots of people, its kinda normal. get some bijans, or some neoprene ones form blackhawk or something

Hades December 14th, 2006 00:07

Hatch kneepads I found that same problem with. Alta kneepads are alot more comfortable I find.

The Saint December 14th, 2006 00:11

Same kneepads, same problem. Can't complaint too much because I knew what I was paying for.

I'm considering sewing loops onto the front of my pants and running the straps through them instead of around my legs. Haven't done so because I'm considering switching BDU.

DuffMan December 14th, 2006 00:13

I think the concensus I've found is that Altas are the benchmark for comfort, bear in mind there are two versions, velcro and hook; the hook being superior.

I have something similar. I got knee pads that just clip onto your pants. I never wear knee pads because I find them uncofortable but now that I have these Im sure it will fix it. I havent played with them yet so I cant comment on how well they work.

Edit- These are them

I have the same knee pads you do and they killed the back of my knees aswell. I tried crossing the straps and it helped a lot for me. I don't know if you've already tried that yet, but it's worth a shot if you haven't.

The Saint December 14th, 2006 00:59

I've tried crossing the straps, but I don't remember how it worked out except that it didn't make things worst for me. Worth another try.

jamilsaleem December 14th, 2006 01:29

man i was about to say that..., it looks like the one i got. getting loose, sliding down and not being comfortable was always the problem until i saw a dude crossing the straps, dont remember who though...now it stays in place and is comfortable.

Hedonism Bot December 14th, 2006 01:35

thanks for all the replies. Ill try crossing he straps.

Pip December 14th, 2006 03:16

Pffft, i went for the no name $5 skateboarding ones from crappy tire, and they are the dogs bollocks....haven't had a problem with them yet....and they have been used for everything including roofing my house to some hard abuse on the field.

sherlockbonez December 14th, 2006 11:26

Buy a pair of vollyball ones and wear them under your BDU pants.

Cross the straps!

Most knee pads are designed to cross the straps behind the knee.

If you don't then you have to cinch them up way too tight to keep them up.

Crossing the straps causes the top of the pad to be bent over the top of the knee "cuping" the patella.. and holding the pad up.

Also with the straps crossed behind the knee every time you bend the knee the pad is pulled back up and centred on the knee.

I have had about 7 surgeries on my left knee, including an ACL replacment.. and I have no cartilage left in the joint.. a knee pad dropping is simply not an option.. unless you want to see a grown man cry.

This works for me and I trust it.. If I went down on an unprotected knee.. I would not get up...

RecceGod December 14th, 2006 12:49

Bijan is the way to go...

Dracheous December 14th, 2006 13:42

OR! If you have any patience, sew a pair of channels into your BDU.

I do this to all my cover-alls and to my dads as well. You sew a pair of channels, basically just folded material of the same colour to the pants you're sewing it too; in the positions that the straps are. What this does is give you the ability to leave the straps some what loose but at the same time tight enough to keep them from bouncing. And when you do kneel it doesn't drag the strap down into the back of your knee.

As soon as I kept some kneepads for my gear set up, its what I'll be doing to to my BDU's.

I didn't like the Hatch ones either, now I just have bruised knees..... don't bother it's too obvious.

+1 on the Blackhawk HellStorm neoprene kneepads. One of the best airsoft investments I've ever made. Highly recommended.

bean December 14th, 2006 22:52

Volley ball knee pads is what i used to use for work till i lost them

stokes December 14th, 2006 23:05

My hatch broke after the first use. The plastic piece that secures the strap on one end to have the velcro wrapped around behind your leg snapped in half.... just my luck... I will be getting the neoprene ones from blackhawk...

My question about these kneepads: are they durable? When worn on the outsude of the bdu? Will they withstand constant contact to the environment? (regular usage and abrasion)

Chingyul December 15th, 2006 20:51

Bijan: Where do you get them? Looking for them in OD.
