Star HK SL9! Sweet new gun

Has anybody heard of this thing yet? Just saw it on Redwolfairsoft.com
Looks DAMN sweet. Fit a high powered scope on it and you have sexy Sniper/assault rifle. Has the style of a G36E with fixed stock and thumbhole. $485 USD on that site. Any one have any idea if it'll land in Canada?
Incase by some chance I'm a moron and this thing isn't news... well....
Also It's my knowledge that star makes good quality aeg's lke the L8A5A1.

Thoughts? Opinions?

The Star SL9 kit has been around for a while now. :/

Edit: Oops my bad, didn't see it was the full gun.

Obelisk March 27th, 2006 23:04

Yeah, the SL9 kit (kit only) has been out for almost a year now. I've always liked the look. Mine is a TM G36 + SL9 kit. I know some ppl have preordered the complete STAR SL9s. :)

dont scare me like that....

This is the modernized sniper rifle of the future! 20 rd clip full auto capabilites. Id just want me a KWA MAC11 for a sidearm and I'd be set for pretty much any scenario.

Anyone heard anything about this yet?

Edit: Damn i love those g36's sweet ass setups 8)

I haven't heard much, but looking at this makes me drool. It's so sleek and sexy.

Actually, the SL9 is the civilian version of the G36. The sleekness is to avoid resembling an "assault rifle" too much. No full auto, unless the full auto is represented by the "1" on the trigger grouping.

Classic Army has their SL9 coming out in a little bit, too. We're going from a after market kit-only rifle to two manufacturers making off the shelf versions.

[Lithium] March 27th, 2006 23:30

sl9 is primary a civie hunting rifle, is it not??? looks nice imo.. cant wait for the classic army one to come along

Canadian_Killer March 27th, 2006 23:32

According to redwoldairsoft it is full auto so I beleive they know what they are saying with that. Thanks for the info, Ive never really heard of the sl9 before. I can't wait for the Classic army version though as they are usually very good for quality and trademarks. More than anything, this gun makes me need a job :(Thoughts? Opinions?

Edit: actually, your right, there is only a 1 and 0 on the fire selector switch. Error at redwolf, or something missing here?

Cortexburn March 27th, 2006 23:36

If you push the selector far enough forward so it hides the "1" then it is full auto...which sucks. I was looking forward to a semi only gun...so much for that.

By the time you make enough to buy it and associated kit, you might be old enough to play on some fields with parental consent. IIRC, you need to be 16 to play at most fields and a legal guardian must be present.

Canadian_Killer March 27th, 2006 23:39

It would be used mainly only for semi anyways but i can definately see where full auto wold come in handy. Pinned down 10 m away from someone would make you want to shoot a little quicker but then again thats where a good sidearm comes in, like a glock or m11

Droc March 27th, 2006 23:40

star announced that last fall

True... by the way I will be 16 in august not that this has anything to do with this but yes i do have parental consent and my whole family (older brothers, my father and mother) are all getting into airsoft. I already currently have a couple of friends in the sault (my age) who have aeg's. There are also older people who play with them. adults. I'm a very mature responsible person FYI and have been researching airsoft for the last 2 years.

Just out of curiosity, how did you come across my age? Not that I am trying to hide it

That's fine, good on you for doing your homework. And I got your age off your profile. People often forget they exist.

You're probably going to want a scope to go with a SL9, don't forget to save up for that, you're looking at maybe ~$100 for a dependable set of scope and rings. And CA's SL9 could be out by August, I'm not sure; it's not like they're building a completely new gun. I'm not sure if I'd recommend Star or CA more, though. The Star G36 line apparently has the same or tiny bit higher FPS than the CA, there's not been enough testing for anything really conclusive AFAIK.

Canadian_Killer March 28th, 2006 00:01

I see, thanks a lot.

-Trooper- March 28th, 2006 00:58

I hope they come out with the SL9SD as well.

Yep Star has a SL9SD version. Not sure when is the release date.

Mysteryfish March 28th, 2006 03:15

it's actualy an SL-8 (try looking up an SL-9...)

And it's the "civilian modified" version of a G-36.

here we go:

"The function is identical to the G36, but because politicians have decided that folding stocks, pistol grips and flash hiders and for that matter, the color black = assault weapons, what we get is an SL8..."

All that is on the HKpro website...

Also of note, in the US, the gun is modified as to accept proprietary low-capacity magazines rather than full size G36 magazines.

Except outside the US. Snicker...

Quality of Star/CA?

I'm new to airsoft and getting into it with a few friends. I was originall looking at getting a G36C, but when I saw this gun I fell in love. From what I've read and what people say, Tokyo Mauri is the ONLY guns to buy...but star makes this and from what I read here CA is comming out with one. Does anyone have experience with Star (and/or CA) as to whether they make quality guns that won't break? I've heard stories of cheap guns snapping in half and such, and didn't want to fork $500+ just on a gun to have it break. Thanks in advance to any replies.

The Saint March 29th, 2006 22:45

LOL, CA or even Star won't snap in half on you, they're way above that (unless you're fat and fall on them  ). The flak CA gets is from poor quality control a few years back, which has improved tremendously since (although still not 100% where TM is, but most companies aren't). People love CA because it's got higher metal content and higher rated internals versus any Marui gun of equal model, even if CA guns can be a little inconsistent about their out-of-the-box reliability.

My first gun is a CA36E, and I've had no real mechanical issues.
