Association of Competitive Airsoft
Not sure if many people have heard about this league but wow the rules, class systems and the repawn boxs are a really cool idea even the games that they have are neat. they are based out of the states but I think it would be a cool idea to take some of there ideas and use them up here mainly the class systems. let me know what you guys think :) heres a link to their website if you dont know what I'm talking about http://www.acairsoft.com/aca-class-system/
|
I think its silly.
|
really? I kind of like the team play it incorporates it means you can just unleash on the field you have to pick your shots and work together. thats just my opinion and your allowed yours no disrespect, thanks for the input.

one word... Why?

The rule sets are strict and great for "speed ball" type play.
As much as the website looks nice and clean, they clearly aim at paintball players. Their rule sets do not allow for larger games than skirmishes and small 10-man encounters. Still, I guess there are some people that like that kind of gameplay... But the give-away is the 15yo age rule... that is literally copy-pasted from any paintball association. They also allow a MP5 with an electric winding mag to be a "support" and allow highcap mags without restriction to any player... As I said, it's a nice rule set for what we call winter exercise. I am sure there is no "take time to aim and take your shots" at any of theses events. |
Team Play... Arguable competitiveness? Its TAC3 night except unlike there is TAC3 they got some stupid class system. *yawn* Personally I'd rather take a friday night off work and go get some lessons from Brian.
|
There are already games (usually milsims) with defined roles which are roughly analogous to those "classes" (without being as Battlefield-ish). But looking at their respawn delays its clear this is more of a skirmishing oriented thing. Their weapon setup is plain silly though.
|
I've retyped the wording of this a couple of times and I just can't make it sound any better than: No.
|
I think this idea just got voted off the Canadian Island :P

This is... way... too much... EDIT: On the other hand, this is pretty neat: ACA Game "The Wall" teaser video - YouTube |
Different group, but they've turned it into speedball.

Hahaha well that didnt go ove rthe way I thought it would as I am new to airsoft thought I would get some veterians opinions. I guess seeing as I come from paintball (speedball) that why it seems kind of cool to me. if it gets airsoft more recognized though as a competitive sport I am all for it.
|
also cant really say that its exactly like speed ball as there are unlimited repawns just a timer depending on the classes that you choose (once you choose a class thats it for the season) and they have different types of games the wall is what intrests me the most. heres some highlights of the season. Really big problem with competitive, Airsoft would require many many more refs. You will find that Speedball is frowned upon. Airsoft is about realism. About milsim. This thread needs more Milsim.
|
"How awesome would it be if ACA games were broadcasted on ESPN? "
Enough said. Whatever floats their boat but yes I'm a Muslim (read: milsim) elitist and there would be little appetite for that here. Why even have cammies and kit? Why not just wear jerseys and have a high cap. Also the class system is brutally reminiscent of a video game. I'll be sure to tell the next Inf officer that I see that he can't be an assaulter because he's a Captain class. Anyway, there are people that do milsim and there are people that play paintball-eque games. As the former, I'm unimpressed with the latter. |
They didn't say if Origin was required to play or not.
|
Oh i agree that airsoft is more about realism but at the same time too it should be about having fun. if this sparks peoples intrests i dont think it should be frowned upon

As soon as it's competitive, someone starts talking about prizes.. now you will have the airsoft equivalent to "wiping" ... rampant hit shrugging.. and the resultant rage and frustration.. hard feelings... and fun dampener. this is one of those things that sounds great.. and could be if human beings were not involved. |
Ok to quote Brad on the idea its "straight homosexual country-music Special Olympic gay"
wall is an interesting concept, cept for the fact a nice high rof burst would take it down. Ppl who wanna do that should just stick to cod and paintball. |
this is one of those things that sounds great.. and could be if human beings were not involved.[/QUOTE]
^ probably one of the funniest and true things I have heard. either way not to sound like a dick but I personally would want to try it before I start saying its a bad idea. For me win or lose I think it would be fun I mean all it is is another type of game right not like you only get to play this for the rest of your life. people that cheat to win a trophy or whatever it is im sure people would recognize them as cheaters people who dont call there hits or wipe usually get caught and then they are frowned upon. |

We play some pretty hard core competitive games at TTAC3 .. pretty much every week .. but no one keeps score.. We have done games like "THE WALL" except we used balloons This idea.. is not new... and has already been roundly rejected as "not within our field of interest" for the majority of players .. A daygame now and again using some of these ideas would be fine.. but the hole "league" idea has fallen flat several times already |
If I wanted to play speedball I'd play speed ball. I'm starting to shy away from regular senario game days. Put me in a squad sit me in a forest and give me a sector to scan I'll be happy for hours on end.
I'm too fat, broken, old and cowardly to be in the military but I do want to play the part some times. So I Milsim. If I want to play Battlefield 3 I'll play battlefield 3. Airsoft is getting away from 12 year olds being 1337 sn1purz and play a role with some friends. Edit: So I personally would never want it to be a competitive sport. Man I'm starting to sound old! |
I dislike the fact the everyone in this thread is compairing it to BF3 though airsoft is nothing like a video game. Just because they use classes does not imply that they are going that route its just away for them to direct people to certain duties on the field. I am new to airsoft so brian thanks for letting me know about mislims and stuff I didnt know about them till now. I'm sorry if I'm seeming like an ass or something I mean no disrespect to anyone.

Yea if you want to get into real airsoft you may want to read up on the history of venues in an around london... and learn the difference between a skirm and milsim. Not all 'Milsims' are actual MILSIMs.

This is milsim. Please don't get it confused with Speedball with Pellets. KTHXBAI! |
thanks guy any other info you wanna send me would be great I do understand a lot about airsoft as my sisters boyfriend is sponsered by adreniline paintball for airsoft and I have been out and playing. I just havent meet people who have told me about events and such and what Milsims are but I appreciate you guys giving me the info so thank you. I just want to say that I would rather be out playing airsoft rather then being inside and playing video games when it comes down to that BF3 comment.
|
Really nice video Ozone06 that was really cool. I think I would really enjoy a Milsim
|
Playing Bf3 is called chairsofting.... hahaaha
no but seriously. We don't hate Bf3 as much as CoD. Well New CoD older WW2 CoD was alright I guess. But What we mean is like how a match of BF3 is comparable to what you normally see at skirms. I.E. almost always in contact etc. where as Milsims are like Playing games like Arma or Operation Flashpoint in sense. And then there are the Super elite milsims that some guys run which are like 24 (+) hour events which are as much about survival and patrolling as they are about shooting. |
Quote:
... ooooookay... Regardless of what Adrenaline has ever said, they have yet to host anything that looks like a milsim, 24-hr or otherwise. |
Actually they are hosting a 24hr event now, but I am certain of two things
1. The player base will stop it from being anything more then a very long skirmish style event. 2. Want Milsim? Try Deadfall or Shallow Lake those are good places to start. Cause Rhino Reg is closed. |
I'm not arguing that point. They have held 24-hr games (with a 4-6 hr break in the middle for people to sleep & eat), but I wouldn't call them milsims.
Deadfall is still open (signed up already). Also hoping that Brian puts on a Hot Box game - would be nice to run low-tech. I'll have to make a Shallow Lake event sometime, schedule willing. |

I have heard good things about Shallow Lake (and will be there this time). I'm biased about Rhino. But it's fucking awesome. |

Looks like speedball to me. Just more cheating.
OP, do some exploring into the real airsoft. If you find you still like the faced-paced, upfront, unload 300rnds in 3minutes play... stick to paintball. If on the other hand you start to like the realism and tactical play, stay with airsoft. |
Hot Box was awesome
|
This speedball type play is only found in America and the Phils. Perhaps a few other places like HK and Japan, but it really hasn't caught on here. We're just not interested for the most part.
Although, props to the OP for taking the flaming so well! |
I couldn't stop laughing at the "class system."

"At 11pm all firing of guns will cease until 7am. Night Play will include Silent Operations, including Rubber knives and axes." Why even have night play if you can't shoot at anyone? I get the rubber Knifes, but the Axes thing is kind of ridiculous. |

Sounds like FP1990 moved south, wasn't he trying to set something like this up?

Hi Canada!
First off, I'm really glad to see an active airsoft presence in Canada. I think it's great! For some reason, I was under the impression that airsoft guns weren't allowed? No idea where I got that from. My name is David and I'm the director of the ACA (Association of Competitive Airsoft). I usually don't do this, but I think I'll start jumping into discussions and trying to clarify what it is we're trying to accomplish. Yes, our games are fast paced and 100% action. There is little down time and players are exhausted after a match-up. What we've tried to do (and from what players and spectators tell us, have been successful at) is create a game environment that forces teams to work together and complete objectives as a team. Tactics play a large part of the ACA and I believe any MilSim player can appreciate that. With the class system, players are forced to carry a certain amount of MidCap magazines. Larger carrying classes have longer respawn times, some classes have objective completing capabilities, etc. Each team is able to select what kind of "team load out" they will be bringing onto the field. There is a lot more to it than most people think. 70% of our teams that participate are huge MilSim teams. They attend long ops and travel far to participate in them. Like it was stated before, this isn't for everyone. MilSim ops can be long and engagements can be few and far between. That's just the nature of MilSim. We tried to create an environment that focuses on those engagements against another team. Now, the main point that I want to stress is that the ACA is 100% supportive of the airsoft community. I've been on an airsoft team for about 3-4 years now (RAINBOW airsoft) out here in California. All I want to do is see the sport grow and thrive while keeping it's very nature in tact. That's why we implemented mid-caps, classes and objective based games into our system. I won't lie, modern FPS games have inspired some aspects of the format, but who doesn't like playing video games? ;) Get off that couch and play it for real! Airsoft is a game of honor and respect. We 100% disagree with giving prizes or money away for winning teams. Winning teams are awarded with unique patches and reputation. We obviously handle no-calling with swift and team-wide action. With the ACA Reputation system, teams with great reputation will be rewarded at the end of the season just as much as the team who actually won. This means that teams who may not perform very well but have great sportsmanship will be rewarded. Teams with poor sportsmanship will be ejected from the ACA community. After all, it's just a game. Have fun. The ACA will eventually be branching out. Our goal is to be a large world-wide team ranking system for airsoft. Ranking is based on a myriad of factors. In fact, winning games/events is a very small part of the ranking system. Ranking will be scaled on how active your team is in the community (attending pick up games, milsim events, etc.). The more active your team is, the higher you rank. We want to encourage players to get out into the community and play the game. This whole system will also really help new players who are looking for a solid team in their area to play with and encourages them to really get involved. I digress... as far as our league goes, it's not for everyone, but we are in no way "ruining airsoft". I really don't understand all of the animosity we get from the MilSim community for trying to do something good for the sport. In fact, the ACA is really looking forward to hosting a few true MilSim games of our own in the future. Long ops that really stay true to the game. If you guys have any questions at all, please feel free to post them here. I'll try to check back often to answer them as soon as possible. Thanks guys and hope to see you on the field! -David |
David,
Thanks for posting and explaining. Airsoft has been solid in Canada for quite some times.. and in fact we have fewer restrictions here than in the USA when it comes to airsoft guns. This type of competitive play is not popular here.. but that could change .. with the right people spearheading it.. up to now.. it's not been the right people. Again thanks for posting. |
Yea we can use WE M4's cause you cannot turn them into real guns :p
|
yeah instead we have contradicting laws and implementations of those lawes between various agencies about import, ownership and use. :P
Of course, once it's in your hands, we do have less restrictions.. no clear bodied, or orange tips. We can use the aforementioned WEm4s and we can have glocks apparently. |
lets make an attempt to stay on topic...
