how many mags do YOU carry?
(i tried searching for this thread, before posting, but could not find anything)
skirmishes = milsim / 24 milsim = I run m4 120rd mid caps I like to consider myself pretty conservative with my ammo. I usually run with 4 mags during skirmishes, and alot of times end up only using 1 or 2 mags during that skirmish. But milsims Im not sure... Do you over prepare and take on the extra weight? Im asking because I added more mag pouches to my loadout for a total of 9 mags but I really dont like the extra weight at all... |
I used to carry 13 x 68round TM locaps in a chestrig
Now I carry 5x 120round PTS PMags via a belt rig and prefer this much better. It's less ammo overall but it's significantly less weight. If you're really concerned about weight vs. ammo, I would carry a hicap stuffed to the brim as a last-ditch mag and put that in a GP or utility pouch. You can add some dynamat or foam on the insides to cut down on rattling. Ammo and load bearing preference really boils down to the scenario, field, and style of play of each player. |
10 tm sig 552 lows caps
15 tm lowcap ar 10 mid caps ak and 1 drum 2 m249 box mag Or 6 tm low and 5 mid for the m14 Varies depending senario ammo limitation an distance from the truck |
Skirmish = 6 midcaps (PTS PMAG's) in 3 double fastmag pouches + 1 hicap overstuffed so it won't rattle in a nylon mag pouch as a "last resort"
Milsim - as many as can carry |
I run 7 120rds PMAG/EMAG mids last me two to three skirmish matches before I gotta refill.
For Milsims I am planning on running the same thing (most of my team uses stanag/m4 compatiable weapons so we can share ammo)-or max ammo limits. Soon I am moving into GBBR with 10x 30rd mags. |
Enough for what I'm doing..
Assault = more Recce = less run realcaps only. |
5 to 6 GBBR M4 Lowcaps only. I have more than enough.
|
5 GBBr mags + 1 in my pistol!
|

Edit; I knew what you meant ... ;) |
I use the same rig no matter what I'm playing.
Right now it has 8x120rd M4 mags and 4x40rd 1x20rd (in the gun) MP7, and if its going to be a long game I have a backpack full of other M4x120rd mags. I am hoping to make 2 rigs soon, one a full out vest that holds an ass ton of mags, and one chest plate that holds like 8. |

For me it depends on what I'm using. For AEGs (mostly ARs), I tend to carry 8 spare 68-round low caps + 1 in the gun. I have a couple of 120 round mags that I may occasionally use depending on the nature of the game.
But really, it depends on my role and the gun I'm carrying. FOr a long milsim, I can easily be carrying 16+ low caps. |
Skirmish: ~600
Milsim: Depends on ammo restrictions. Most are 200-300 or so, giving me 3 mags. |
4+1 SIG 552 Lowcaps
12+1 shotgun shells 6 1911 .45 magazines 2+1 Beretta 92 Magazines 4+1 PPSh Drums Not all at once, obviously. I'm considering ditching spare mags for a sidearm completely when I'm using the PPSh, since the drums are so damn bulky on the rig already. Sidearms are a must for the shotgun, though. I use my sidearm more than my long guns, so I usually carry more 1911 mags than anything else. I'm a big fan of using my pistol instead of reloading, so I don't often need to carry that much primary ammo. |
depends on how long an operation is.
generally i run with 5 PTS mid caps on my rig, with another 5 in my pack in case things get drawn out and i need to do a resupply. been on 24+ hour ops where i never needed to go into my pack, so if im running low on my rig, then im shooting too much. it's just good to have that backup, and i can let a team mate grab them out of my pack if they need them. |
6x 100 round midcaps
3x pistol mags |
2 pistol mags and either 4x30rd mags for my gbbr, or 2x 68rd midcaps if i'm using my indoor cqb M4.
Or 1x 170rd midcap for the p90 :D |
4 x 150 rounders for my AK
8ish 68 rounders for my M4 2 pistol mags |
(4+1) x 50 round mags
1 x 470 round high-cap mag 1 x speedloader (3+1) x 15 round pistol mags 1 x speedloader |
If I'm running a M249, it's 11x 120rnd mags, and 3 pistol mags.
|
Fun skirmish shoot 'em up...no ammo limits FR sort of thing...5-6mid caps or 8-10 real caps. I find that usually lasts 2 sets. I'll reload (usually just topping up) them once, maybe twice for a full day.
Milsim (depends on the game parameters/limits) DA - 4-6 real caps Patrol - 10 real caps (different rig) Extended patrol - 10 real caps + backpack with 4-8 more real caps. If reloading in the field is permitted...then a couple of guys will have loaders and BBs. A lot of games that I go to have 300 round limits...so that's what you take. That limit is usually per sortie, but it may be for the whole day...so you adjust accordingly. |
8+1 lowcaps (AR)
If I carry a pistol, it's 2+1. I load my mags to real loads +3 to accomodate the hopup space lost. |
I can carry 12 p90 mags. 140rds. Depending on the game. Decides what I go with
|
I tend to carry as much as I can no matter what, its like a comfort blanket. I use 120 round m16 short mags, they are half the size of normal mags and plastic, so they are really light, and look much better on my aeg than normal mags do.
two easy to grab mags, three flap secured mags, and two mags taped together in the gun(it doesn't stick out, and its great if I just want to do a light load and take my vest or belt off.) one mag in my mk43, one extra, and depending on my load I can either have it holstered and carry the silencer in a seperate pouch, if I am carrying two sidearms I have it set up so I am able to have it holstered with silencer on. Lower velocity, size and low sound makes it great for sneaky kills or close range kills. I carry my deuce mini shotty with two spare shells, 24 rounds spread in a decent pattern is very useful, room clearing or those times when you can only get a single shot off, small and light so its easy to just poke around a corner, but not quite as impressive as a gun mounted launcher. If I'm really paranoid about running out I always have a 1000 round electric autowinding hicap XD. Tracers+1000rounds of autofire+mini shotty, keeps heads WAY DOWN...although I have never used more than 4 main mags and 1 pistol mag in a single game/life. |
got 8 mags for my KJW M4 (real caps) and 5 mags for my KWA MP7 and 4 mags for my TM P226E2
|
hey takagari, how do you rig up all those mags to fit your gear?
If I run with my p90 I have 4 on my leg and 1 in the gun, 1 or 2 stuffed into the inside of the vest stargate style. lows (68 rounds) or mids (150-180 rounds). If I run my m14, I have capacity to carry up to 8+1 (x68 rnds)mags, I have all g&g low caps. And always 3 +1 (x 25 rnds)pistol. |
Just got into airsoft, dont have all my gear yet currently im running
4x 80rnd mid caps in my M4 1x pistol mag (24+1) That setup will be changing to; 4x 120rnd mid caps 2x pistol mag I'm maybe also planning on getting a hi-cap as a backup Cheers :) |
Quote:
For CQB or skimishes, I'll carry the same but will add all my GBB mags (4+1) All GBB mags loaded to real capacity. |
OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
srsly tho: 8+1 x 68rd m4, 2+1 double stack 1911 |
7 x G36 50-rnd mags
5 x G36 100-rnd mags All loaded to real cap 2 x MP5 200-rnd high caps (looking to replace with mid caps) Loaded to max 7 x 30-rnd shotguns shells Loaded to max 1 x 100-rnd speed loader Loaded to max If I'm feeling special I'll add a 2500-rnd C-mag for my G36 I don't tend to fire much, unless I'm using the C-mag. I've never used more than a couple mags before being able to reload (back to HQ, safe zone, etc.). I'd drop the other mags, but the weight stops my vest moving as much when I run (hooray for being a twig!). I dump the high caps during milsim events. |
9 real caps in my GBBR because I can't afford more and 5x120rds in my Thompson that I usually load to 60 each.
|
8 x low caps for my AEG.
5 + 1 in my GBBR. In WW2 games, I carry 7 in my bandoleer. |
I run 6 Real cap on GBBR but want to increase to 7
|

Usually 5x 120 mids plus 1 in the m4. 2+1 in pistol & 1 impact grenade.
|
if I'm running my .22: 10 mags and 4 pistol mags
it I'm running my Roni: 6 long mags, 5 short mags and 2 pistol mags plus 26 shells for my goblin and 3 tornados. |
viperfish is also running:
- full hockey armour (incl goalie pads) - tool belt, tools - kitchen sink - inflatable tank (or snowman) - mountain dew - tactical bacon - portable bbq - barrel or cardboard box for cover - ponies |

7 x ptw mags, can pin them to whatever i want. usually keep them at 90 or 120
1 x pistol mag or 1 x 249 box mag 1 x pistol mag |

|
8+1 real caps M4
2+1 (33rds manually cap to 14rds) double stack 1911 co2 Mag |
10
|
For all scenario types, I always run five midcaps for my Type 56 and 6 Midcaps for my ICS M4.
|
Whatever the loadout, hi-caps are for melvins.
|
8 lowcaps (ak)
4 pistol 5.7 |
i use about 4 mincaps for my akms
keeps things simple. |
Will use 12 Vietnam 20 round mags for my m16a1 and Xm 177 WE gbbr
Use 4 mid cap with my AK (have 8) Use 5 midcap with my thompson and 6 realcap for my Kjw kc02 (need to buy more...) One box bag with my m60VN Only one mag yet for my 1911a1... |
i like to have at least 10 midcaps or more. at least 3 pistol mags too.
I don't shoot much but I often find myself single handedly holding the flank or something like that which requires a mucho sized ammo supply. |
5 low caps (68rnds) - p90
3 pistol mags - px4 |
Skirmishes = 10x30rnd pmags
Anything longer = 10x68rnd pmags I always keep 2+1 for my p226 |
Milsim: 8 GBBR + 3 for Glock
No ammo limit skirmishes: 8 mid caps + 3 for Glock (mostly so I don't have to reload often) |
The more weight, the better. I love how heavy GBBR mags are, lol. If it feels too heavy, work out. :p
|
5 STAR 30rnd for my AR. Less is more
|
M4 type = 6 in vest + 1 in AEG. Lowcaps loaded with 30 + 3 bb's for hop-up well compensation.
1911 double stack co2 = 1 in mag, 2 in vest. 14 bb's loaded in each. Any senario, that's my setup. My philosophy ; Reloading underfire ingame equals at least to 20 bedroom dry reloads so I practice reloading ingame anytime I can. Having a low amont of BB's in your AEG actually helps you a lot more. Hi-caps should be banned because they will give you muscle memory coodies. |
8 midcap PMAGs loaded to about 70-75 rds each or 8 MP5 midcaps
and 1 pistol mag and 1 to 3 90rd speed loaders depending on rig capacity. I'm looking for a decent solution for longer games where I'd be carrying a whole bunch of mags in a pack so that I can re-supply my teammates. |
14 - 90 rnd midcaps - AK
16 - 90 rnd midcaps - M16/M4 Sometimes I will carry a highcap as a "just in case" for either gun. Depends on which gun im using(AK/M4). I might boost my AK AND M4 mag count by another 3 mags. Might seem a little unrealistic to some. However, I'm not carrying grenades, radio/s, body armour, and/or other mission essential equipment :P |

you forgot the beer keg.... |
For myself
Run and gun = as many as I can carry (real cap GBBR) Milsim (real Milsim) = 5 (real cap GBBR) 8 day Milsim game in Oklahoma used 60 bbs total, I was the second most trigger happy in my squad, a couple of the guys never fired a shot. Most of the milsim games I have played you are loaded down with water and a green radio, possibly a pack, sleeping bag, half shelter, MRE`s, notebooks etc. I am told real world is five mags with the option of reloading from the support gunners supply you are carrying or from the ammo in your pack and your loadout should replicate this. And of course ponies fed tactical bacon with a PEZ dispensor for my P90 mags. |
1 high cap and a small bottle of bb's
|
6 maybe 7 + 1 PTW pinned to 90rds
2 + 1 WE 1911 or 1+1 TM Mk23 |
Typically between 4-7 for an AR, depending on the situation. Like Brian said, depends on the mission. If I'm going to have easy access to reloading, I don't need to carry as much. Always realcap unless I'm getting very seriously outgunned and need to bump up how much ammo I'm carrying, at which point realcaps get filled to low-caps. If I need to carry more, I can stick some in my backpack/pockets, too.
GBBR I'll carry the same amount. Pistol, anywhere between 3-5, real cap 1911 single-stack, again depending on what I'm wearing, where I'm going, how much I intend to use my secondary. |
3-4 PPSH mid-cap drums (loaded as real-cap (71+5 for hop-up) for Milsim, otherwise loaded to max 110 for skirmish)
or 7-10 mp40 mags (loaded as real-cap (32+3 for hop-up) for Milsim, otherwise 50bb for skirmish) and 2 luger mags (loaded as real-cap (8)) 15 30BB shell when I am using my M3-clone. |
I WAS running with 4x 68rnd primary mags + 1 sidearm mag.
Now with some more money spent I'm got my rig carrying: 1st line: -1x 26rnd 1911 mag (no spare mags) 2nd line: -7x 68rnd mags -1 M4 style speed loader 3rd line: -2x 68rnd mags -1x 300rnd hicap (if I using this I'm SOL out the ying-yang) I have not tested this loadout though, and I think I'll have to drop alot of mags. |
6x 50rnd G36 magazines.
|
8 to 10 AK mags, 1 in the gun, 4 in the chest rig, the rest in a backpack or ammo pouch. All realcap.
|
8 x 30 rounds in plate carrier.
2 x 30 rounds + 2 x pistol mags on double/double magpouch on belt Magic number for a good game is 300 rounds for primary weapon. |
1st line
Don't have one :( 1x short in pistol 2nd line Ak mags 6x on rig 2x taped in rifle 2x extended glock mags on rig planning on adding a couple pistol mags to my belt. |
Depending on the webbing, or P.C., or vest(I have 11 of them), I can carry between 3 and 10 mags loaded as real caps.
I also got a 25 rds pistol mag when I got a pistol in my loadout (really rare). |
I carry 6 or 7+1 depending on the configuration I have set up... Plus 2 on my first line. I also carry 3+1 for pistol mags on my first line. The rest of my mags stay on my 3rd line back at respawn or HQ. I run all has so my primary mags are all 30rds and my pistol mags are 7 rounds as I run a 1911. I like others only carry this much as i would rather have it an not need it. The weight doesnt bother me.
|
depends on how many people need to be shot
|
6+1 for my ptw, double m4 flap pouches on plate carrier
3+1 for pistol, pistol pouch on plate carrier or battle belt (depending on what kit I'm wearing) 2 impact and 1 timer grenade hanging on grimloks Training knife I've never even come close to using a chance to use. :-) |
I got 15 real cap AR mag that I can put in my loadout
plate carrier with 4 double stack STANAG mag (total 8) side with 4 mag place got 1 tornado 1 smoke grenade and between the grenade I got 2 pistol pouch for my P226 mag I usualy will run only 10 mag becasue of ammo limitation on most game I go to |

never be caught in a mexican standoff without them.... |
Once I had a garbage bag full of porn that I could barely carry, that was a lot of mags.
|
lol
Used to carry 18x 68rnd M4 mags Now I carry a 2500rnd box on my 249, spare 2500rnd box on me, 4000 rounds in my ammo pouches, and another 10,000 rounds in my ruck. Make good and damn sure you never run out of ammo! |

|
Primary:
Usually 5+1 lowcaps. If I expect a lot of shooting (either CQB or outdoor in a defensive setting), it can go as high as 8+1 on my 2nd line, and 4 additional ones in my 3rd line. Secondary (pistol): Usually 2+1 (loaded at real capacity) In CQB, where the pistol is more likely to be used, it can go as high as 6+1. |

As for me, I used to do 5x30 rounders then went to 5x68 rounders and now do 5x120 rounders (but loaded up to 100 rounds each because of feeding issues after loading to full). I like lows and mids TBH and prefer mid's for regular gamedays but will probably rock lows at milsims. I thought I would do the whole real cap thing when i started out but probably not going to do that. |
6 Std caps usually light loaded to about 50 and 3 TM hicappa mags.
Most games I care to go to have ammo restrictions anyway I don't see the point of running around with 12 mags if I only really use 4 or 5 in any real engagement. I've never been caught short especially mil-sim. Then there's always the knife. Getting killed by a 350 lb fat man with a knife is a double burn in my books. |

Incidentally, a condor gasmask pouch can conveniently hold 5 p90 mags by itself. I was thinking about stitching it shut so I could use it to hold more mags onto the field... but I'm lazy. |
Eight 130 round MAG brand AR mags. Never had a miss feed and 1040 rounds lasts me a while
|
I work a mix load at the moment for my M4. I tend to carry much more then I fire.
3 80rd 4 68rd 4 30rd And for my 1911 I carry 5 15+1 single stack mags. Also i have to 2 80bb nades for my 203. More to come. It works for now. |
2nd Line
-7 Primary Mags -1 Primary Fast Mag 2nd Line -3 Primary Mags -1 Secondary |
I run 7 Pmag 120 round mid caps, but i only load about 80 rounds in them each due to the fact Pmags are known to jam or something if u load it to the max they wont feed or something but so far i have no problems :)
|
5 120 rnd AK midcaps (with an overstuffed Hi-cap tucked into my butt-pack in case I'm desperate), and 3 GBB pistol mags (doesn't matter what pistol I'm using, I always have 3 mags...habit)
