Another underage airsoft incident. "Kelowna police stop car after kids fire pellet guns at traffic as mom drives" The Pellet guns were Stinger P311s.

I normally don't post these things when I find them, and do not think that this has been posted yet.

But due to what I think is a complete lack of parenting I shall post this.

At least its being called a pellet gun so far.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle2112424/

Heres the story incase the link gets removed.
(Also has A Picture of a clear Stinger P311)

Kelowna RCMP have called in social workers after five kids shot pellets at moving traffic from a car as their mother drove.

The children, aged 11 to 16, were pointing the guns and firing shots in the air from their vehicle as it drove through a rural area of East Kelowna on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers tracked down the vehicle and pulled over the family after another driver complained the kids pointed a gun at him and shot at his vehicle.

The officer found the youngsters were firing pellets randomly outside the vehicle and over the roof and the mother admitted she knew what they were doing .

A police spokeswoman said the mother thought her children were only shooting at road signs.

Police seized three pellet guns – all Stinger P311s – and the pellets. They looked real from a distance, which could have caused a crash in itself, said Sergeant Ann Morrison.

“These guns looked and felt real to [the officer]. There's potential for injury or death. We have a distracted driver or drivers on the roadway. They're operating a deadly piece of machinery.”

No charges were laid Tuesday. Police will follow up with the Ministry of Children and Family Development to ensure the mother gets the message, Sgt. Morrison said.

“The driver knew what was happening. We have an obligation to send a referral to the ministry.”

I hope topic has been place in the correct place.

Styrak July 28th, 2011 02:55

It's not the kids that are an issue, it's the parent(s).
Obviously there was a lack of parenting, or no parenting. She deserves a slap.

Nothing, you aren't the police.
If you see/hear of them playing in a public place you could CALL the police though.

Jimski July 28th, 2011 04:17

I know parents like that.
weak, weak people.

I WAS joking, I could care less if the little noobs get busted.

Back in the 50's-70's this wasn't considered dangerous. 6 Year olds had bb guns that would kill a cat.

I blame it all on rap music. Muthaphucas

My truck clocks in at about 2 tonnes and I'd definitely maneuver to ram a vehicle pointing a weapon at me. Shit, that reminds me...

VINCE!!! I need a heavy duty bullbar / zombie plow for the X!!!

just to play devils advocate for a moment, I can only think that the Mother of these Kids thought that the airsoft Guns that her sons were shooting were in her mind toys and that there was not chance that some body could get hurt with a simple child's toy.

hell people still buy their children the Red Ryder BB Gun that shoots steel or copper BB's.

it's amazing just how ignorant people can be when it comes to some items.
Some people would never thing about letting their child near a real rifle that shoots real ammo, but a BB gun, they think what harm can that do?

I think it goes a bit further than that. A parent would likely know what a BB or pellet gun is, and would teach their kids to treat them accordingly (i.e., as RS). However, airsoft guns are relatively new(ish). The parent probably would file it under the same category as a nerf gun, rubber dart gun or cap gun simply because it's made of clear plastic.

Still, that's no excuse for bad parenting. Ignorance is, in the eyes of the law, not a valid defense.

http://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna...irsoft-gun-use

It was all blown way out of proportion, says Nicole Gorges. The mother of three is referring to the incident Tuesday when police confiscated three airsoft guns from her kids after it was reported they were shooting at a vehicle.

"There is no way in hell I'd let that happen," says Gorges. "I would never allow that to happen. I'm a good mother."

She says she took the kids to Walmart where they bought the airsoft guns for less than $15 each.

Gorges says the plastic pistols are a step above Nerf guns and they shoot small round plastic balls.

An RCMP press release stated there were five kids in the vehicle and the occupants were shooting pellets randomly over the roof and outside of the vehicle. The release also says all five children belong to Gorges and they were aged 11 to 16. In the report a witness says his vehicle was shot at.

Gorges says the police have it all wrong.

"One of my sons was behind me while I was driving and I could see exactly what he was doing. I would never allow him to be shooting out at cars or people or anything like that. He was just shooting one of the signs next to the mail box."

Gorges says there were five kids in the car, three of them were hers and the other two were friends of her kids. She says only her eldest, who is 15, not 16 (as reported by the RCMP), was using the airsoft gun.

"A pick-up truck was coming from the other direction and he saw this and he made a big deal about this. I'm not a neglecting mother and I would never allow that to happen."

The mom says her son was bugging her to let him try the gun out.

"I was just going to the mail box and we waited until no one was around and my son wanted to try out this cheap $15 gun on a sign and I said sure, just give it one shot. It was no big deal. I knew there would be no damage."

She says the police threatened to bring in Social Services.

"They are not going to find anything. I'd like it if they did because I know I'm a good mom."

She is angry it was made out to be a "big shoot-out." She says a person passed them in a truck and he took down her licence. She swears her children did not shoot at the vehicle.

"My boys have their hunting licenses, they treat guns with respect; they're not kids that go and stir up problems. They are recyclers who work with their father at his recycling company. They do things to help others - they know not to do stuff like that. They earned enough money to go and buy these toy guns and they (RCMP) took them with them."

Gorges says her kids have learned a lesson and so has she.

"They learned how serious it could be if we were doing anything like that around the city or people. It was devastating for the kids."

She says she was shot with the little plastic balls and they don't hurt and they don't leave a mark. She says she's learned her lesson and will not be allowing her kids to shoot anything from a vehicle. Instead, she says, they will set up targets like they planned.

Gun Test

Castanet purchased one of the inexpensive guns from Walmart and I had my son shoot me from a distance of 10 metres. It did sting and it did leave a mark. We also did a demonstration with the gun on cardboard and the BBs left indents. It is possible they could chip paint off of signs. The matter is not how much damage the weapons could cause it is the way they were being used.

*There is also a 1 minute video showing a kid shooting one and the "damage" it does to cardboard*

+1 OMG I threw this spoon at the cardboard and it dented it at 20 feet, we should outlaw all spoons as they are potentially deadly weapons! http://www.airsoftcanada.com/images/...n_banghead.gif

Well, that makes me feel all better now... I'm glad she cleared all that up. Bad RCMP for thinking that a bunch of kids waving guns and shooting things while the Mom was driving is the wrong thing to do. And I'm glad she NOW knows that you shouldn't do that.

WOW... how does this woman get up in the morning and make it through the day?! It's amazing that being that stupid that she has made it through life thus far.

Call press conference.
Publicly state that your kids are discharging airguns within city limits.
Hilariously defend your parenting skills.
Argue that your kids are in fact wonderful people.

Damage control. You are doing it wrong.

I call BS on the guns looking or feeling anything remotely like a real gun
I call BS on them stinging and leaving much of a mark at 180fps

son of Castanet report should have been wearing eye pro if they are oh so dangerous!
